Has anybody tried the Hi Point handguns?

They are a lot heavy ( like double what a comparable gun weighs ) The trigger pull is terrible. The fit & finish is all around terrible. I have handled several, but never actually shot one so I don't know about the accuracy. I'm sure the accuracy matches the rest of the gun. They might suit some guys, but I will keep my $1500 plus 1911's. A 1911 regardless of the quality just isn't very good for carrying around on your body. The op said he would love to have a NICE 1911, and a Hi point certainly isn't. He never said anything about leaving it under the seat of a truck.

No disrespect, 4570. You're completely entitled to your opinion. However, having shot my Hi Point several hundred times, I have a pretty well rounded perspective on it. No, it's not as "sweet shooting" as my $1500 1911, but it's not supposed to be. The accuracy of it is plenty good though.. At my last CHL qualification, I shot 250 out of 250 with the expensive one. I can do the exact same thing with the Hi Point.

If the bad guys are coming and I had to grab one or the other, they both carry the same "get it done" ability in my book. If I want to mesmerize the bad guy with how pretty my gun is, I'll choose the pretty one. If I want to get the job done with no frills, the Hi Point is juuuuuuuust fine.

Just like LD1 said, its like a work truck vs a Cadillac. Both of them will get you to the grocery store just fine. All depends on how refined you want to be while going.

Truth is, both guns put a .45 cal hole in the X every single time. What other purpose does a gun serve besides that?

A high end tractor like JD or Kubota VS a Chinese tractor would be a fairer comparison. They both move dirt.

Lol
Fine by me.
The figurative dirt would be equally moved.

I would love to have a nice 1911, but that's somewhere down on my list of priorities. 200+- bucks for a Made in USA 45ACP is quite doable, if it's as decent as the reviews I've read say that it is.

but never actually shot one so I don't know about the accuracy. I'm sure the accuracy matches the rest of the gun.
Actual experience with accuracy trumps opinion every time.

A 1911 regardless of the quality just isn't very good for concealed carrying.
The OP never said anything about concealed carry.

The op said he would love to have a NICE 1911, and a Hi point certainly isn't.
The OP actually said while he '...would love to have a nice 1911,' it is '...somewhere down on [his] list of priorities.'

I would bet money against this statement. The Hi point might go off every time, but hitting the X is another story. My les Baer is he guaranteed to shoot a 3" group at 50 yards right out of the box. I'm not trying to convince anyone to not buy a Hi point, but they certainly are not the "good" 1911 the op wants.

Oh good grief. Who said anything about 50 yards?! That's rifle distance in terms of hitting the X. Any other attempt or expectation is ridiculous. Bet your money as irresponsibly as you'd like.

You've clearly developed some unfounded strong opinions that, frankly, I'm growing weary of listening to or addressing. I think the OP (or anyone else) can make opinions of their own.

Experience is everything.

I quoted what the OP was looking for and what you quoted is, again, incorrect.

The OP said, "200+- bucks for a Made in USA 45ACP is quite doable, if it's as decent as the reviews I've read say that it is."

The OP is looking for a 'decent' .45 and spending $1,500 is 'down on his list of priorities'.

You also, again, ignore other people's experience regarding the HP accuracy.

You made your opinion about Hi Point firearms clear, multiple times. You've also mentioned, both directly and indirectly, how much money you've spent on your 1911s.

Five posts but you're 'not trying to convince anyone to not buy a Hi point'.

Well , there you have it. Guns and tractors don't mix....

If you want a gun to throw under your four wheeler seat that will probably never get shot a Hi point would be fine. Even if it does get shot it will probably be a 10 foot shot, so even the worst possible accuracy is still sufficient. If you want a " good " gun that goes to the range at least once a week like mine do keep looking. And 50 yards is not a rifle shot in my book. I have pistols that will shoot 2 inch groups at 100 yards. I have a 22 LR pistol that will repeatedly hit a 8" plate at 100 yards.
