VW Clean diesels.... how did they get them so clean?

Was mainly speaking of an aftermarket tune. It's been a bad week. Semi-emergency surgery Tuesday this week. Trying to get stuff done while off from work has caused discomfort among other things....ready for better times and a new tractor!

VW may be able to. From a aftermarket DPF/EGR delete standpoint....it's not so easy.
Don't know for sure, but my guess is it has more to do with the interface(box that goes between ECM and PC) than the ability to "do it". Some OEM's lock these devices down tighter than others. Reverse engineering on the interface also has to do with demand. Sending the ECM in also may have to do more with control.

If changing the run design ends up lowering mpg....that means the vehicle will be using more diesel to do the same work. Is that really done in the best interest of the environment? Hmm... Have the powers to be calculated all the pollution created while making the extra fuel needed vs the box measurements?? Me thinks there's more to consider...

I've often pondered that very same question.

From the article linked to in Post #1;

"During normal driving situations, the controls are turned off, allowing the cars to spew as much as 40 times as much pollution as allowed under the Clean Air Act, the E.P.A. said."

Me thinks the cars will have to get 40 times lower mpg to spew the same amount of pollution.

Doesn't work that way.

Don't be such a fool.
Measured emissions are NOT proportionate to fuel usage in environmental impact.

Save your sanity trying to talk sense to this guy, (MikePA) is pointless.
And, most diesel Final Tier 4, as used on current model tractors for instance, uses more fuel to burn off the particulate matter that would otherwise be spewed into the environment. Urea, add blue, DPF, means used on either tractors, on road tractor trailer rigs, or cars all use some form of additive, more fuel or other means to accomplish less harmful emissions. ALL take processing and heat to produce, contain, ship, etc. This is energy used to 'save' the environment.
Consider how much energy will be used for all the lawyers to go to and fro court, shred forests, and the like to prosecute the devil ~ VW/Audi.

And most important of all, Jason Statham may have to start driving a Prius!:eek:
