As far as safety upgrades go, a ROPS is of course tops on my list. I plan on purchasing from Hoye Tractor. Anybody have experience with their product? How was the installation? Are there other OSHA certified ROPS out there (I'd rather go that route than having somebody fabricate something for me).

Also, is this tractor equipped with an overrunning clutch already? This seems to indicate so, but I've read conflicting this on these forms. When I took it for a test drive, I didn't know to check for it with the mower attached, which I can always do to be sure the next time I get on it.

I found the OEM throttle washer dried, inflexible, split and bulging out on mine. My first attempted replacement cut from sheet neoprene was too sticky. Second one made of fabric-backed rubber sheet still works fine a couple of year later.

California, 10-4. I've got the one from Hoye sitting in my basket as we speak. Now to just load up with other goodies to make the shipping worth the while.

Yes, the 240 has a built in over run clutch.

I bought Hoye's first one for YM240, and one of the first ones they sold for anything after production started. We assumed the ROPS certified for YM2000 would fit YM240, and I confirmed it did with just very minor grinding needed on the (non-stock??) spacer that mounts my fenders a little higher. I posted about it here in 2006:

The ROPS also makes a good place to install a golf bag to carry shovels, chain, etc.

These all have the overrun clutch inside the transmission. Get an implement spinning and cut the throttle. Like when you quit pedaling a bicycle, there's a ratcheting sound.

Hello all, I'm new to the forums and new to the world of tractors. I just completed my first purchase, a Yanmar YM240 that I found locally on Craigslist. The prior owner was an older farmer a few towns over, who used it mainly for mowing his 2 acre lawn at the house. Other than that, he just tinkered with it in the garage. I think that it's in pretty good shape, very clean, and you can tell he took care of his equipment. He was good enough to offer to deliver it to my cabin about an hour away, so that was the icing on the cake and made it too good of a deal to pass up.

I bought this with the following goals in mind: mowing my 1.5 acre lawn around the cabin, clearing out approx 2 acres of overgrown pasture, and finally putting in some food plots for next year's deer season. It came with a finish mower, so now I'm in the market for a roto tiller and maybe a brush mower (have a DR field and brush mower, so I can alternatively do some brush clearing by hand).

I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible thanks to the other good folks on here, and I'd like to ask two questions off the bat. Please pardon my ignorance, if applicable!

1) The throttle does not stay where set for more than a second or two, having the tendency to move downwards towards off. From reading around, I think this is a pretty common thing, but couldn't find a discussion of the problem for this particular tractor. Any tips on how to modify the linkage to get it to stick in place?

2) I wanted to get it good and greased, but I have no idea what type of grease the prior owner used. Should I be concerned about mixing greases in any place in particular? Is there a safe bet on what to use, or is it best to find out if possible? (I plan on calling and asking the prior owner, but just in case he doesn't know either).

Ok thanks so much for your time, look forward to learning as I go.!

you need to either tighten the throttle shaft up and or need and new friction disk. You can buy it at Hoye but the shipping will probably be more than the disk. I think there like $1 each? This is a good chance to get new fuel and oil filters while your there.

grease. Dont worry about it you can mix greese just like oils. That is a wives tale. Maybe there is two hugely different greases that cant mix? but they all work togeather that i know of. Cheap black molly grease works or you can go as expensive as you want with mobil 1 or something if you want.

yes, but i see winston answered that a little below this.

You can also call Aaron at Hoye and ask. They will mail you something small in an envelope and charge you like $2 to do so. Will work for orings and things like this.

Don't know what 403 forbidden means, but the link still works for Fredricks
