Oil & Fuel Hyd oil drain questions

I am preparing to change the hydraulic oil on my TC40DA HST for the first time. There's nigh on 10 gallons of the bloody stuff in there so I've got two large receptacles each of which should hold in the region of 5 gal. This, though, presupposes that I'll get an equal amount of oil from each drain plug which won't, necessarily, be the case

Is it likely that I'll get a greater amount of oil from one drain plug than the other and, if so, which one?

Also, is it better to drain from one plug at a time (if so, in which order?) or drain both at the same time?

It’s not that complicated. Put a bucket under one plug and drain. If it starts to get too full, slide that bucket out and put the empty one there, it’ll slide easier than you think. Once that drain is done, slide the bucket over and drain the other plug.

Thanks for the reply. So do them one at a time. It's just a case of forewarned is forearmed. Just need to find somewhere to put the tractor so's I can get the buckets under. They're just a fraction too tall!! :mur:

10 gallon totes at Walmart were $4 and the 18 gal were $5

Totally agree. Less than 10 bucks, bigger opening to catch more mess. Ample capacity. Those are all I ever use for automatic transmission services anymore.

Lay down some planks/boards flat on the ground for each tire and drive up on those for height. I'd use 3 buckets, and slide them out when partially full so they are easy to handle. You still might only need 2 if doing the one plug first. It's not that bad to do.

Oh sorry, did not notice. BUT I am sure they have something like a 'tote' in the UK.

Thanks guys. I got a couple of plasterers buckets and, at £7.50 each, I'm going to get some usage out of 'em!!

I don't know what a 'tote' is. Presumably we know them by a different name. Anyway circumstances and weather may prevent me from doing this for a while.

I've changed the oil on my car numerous times but my concern here is with the amount of oil.
