I think it would be a good choice . Will he let you try one ? I was going to get a mini forest for my 5085 jd but i never got around to it . I started this hobby with a 262 cat and a low flow Davco mower both used . We all start somewhere . I’m sure your tractor will be fine .

I so want to pull the trigger !! I am still waiting to hear back if I am getting a particular job Id want it for but even I don't get the job, I could use it in so many other jobs expanding myself.

Ken, another way of doing work that's to big for a flailmower is to hire a forest mulcher and get it to do a rough cut. By that I mean to smash the bigger stuff and take the bulk out of the job, then finish the job with the flail. I am working on a job at the mo doing a one cut pass with the forest mulcher them a one cut pass with the flail and its come up a treat.

Well, I ended up purchasing a mulcher for myself. I have a small tractor and its a small unit but it's the next step for my business. I personally don't like to hire things out that I can do or wish to do if feasible. This small mulcher (if it works as well as I hope) "should" be a great advance for me. Hopefully it's a good step up from brush hogging and works well in concert when clearing areas.

My set up will be mulcher and grapple .... (I already brush hogged what I could in this particular area.

I have searched the great Google for many terms listed in what seems to be a cryptic thread of exotic land clearing implements. I haven't found anything that says it works for anything less than 80HP.

I inquire because I have 60HP and acres of old christmas trees and would love to easily reclaim that land.

Seppi makes a mini forestry mulcher for tractors starting at 60hp.

The Unit I purchased is: FAE DML/Twin 150

FAE has a couple units that start for tractors at 50hp (and it states engine hp not PTO hp).

What do you have planned for cab protection? Deffently need something to guard you from debris hope it's an enclosed cab for your lungs sake also.

I do have an enclosed cab.

As for protection, I will come up with something in the long term. As for now, I just have insurance.

I am only cutting thick and heavy brush at this time. We will most likely use the skid steer with mulcher for the heavier stuff since it has protection.

I know with the mulching units on the CTL's and dedicated mulching units they are required to have poly-carbonate doors and windows for safety. When you mention insurance do you mean for the equipment or for your health/death benefit if it throws debris through the cab glass that is not designed for the purpose. You might want to look at replacing the cab glass with 3/4 inch poly-carbonate. Not horribly expensive but not cheap either. Of course the alternative is even more expensive.
