I like the Lariat... more to my taste... then again, I've only bought one new car and that was a special circumstance...

When you buy new you loose 20% or more in value the moment you drive off the lot. That is a lot of fix-up money on a used truck.
Not to mention taxes, tags and insurance will be lower. At least in my state.

I'm one to advocate new truck prices are insane. Recently read that in the past decade, adjusted for inflation, new car prices fell 8% and trucks have increased 37%!

Wife has been through 3 new vehicle in the past 10 years or so. All have had various "bugs" and issues. Chevrolet, MINI Cooper, now Jeep. I have always done the 2-4 year old, low mileage, 1 owner used trucks that have had a shake down and minor issues fixed. Or none present. Ticks her off that I don't have check engine lights coming on all the time!

Last week I bought a like new 2013 GMC 2500HD Denali, Crew Cab with full 6.5' bed, 4x4, 6.0 gas with 63,000 miles for about the same price as a 2015-2016 work truck package. Buy lightly used and instantly get at least 30% off. This truck still had the paint INSIDE the receiver hitch. It had NEVER pulled a trailer. Inside and out it could have passed for NEW, it even still smells new. Plus it is in my opinion even more loaded out than a King Ranch F250. Not to mention the extended warranty is good to 111,000 or October 2019, $100 deductible. Factory B2B warranties are 3yr/36000 and yes, you pay for that warranty in the new vehicle purchase price just like an extended warranty on a used.

There are good deals out there. You just have to shop around. I expanded my search to a 250 mile radius and found it 70 miles from home.

I've always had good luck with vehicles... and am not particularly brand loyal and guess I own at least a dozen different brands right now and some have not been made or sold here for a long time.

My brother does have a problem with anything GM... just his bias and it's his money.

I do like the looks/style of the new GM trucks a lot.

The South Western King Ranch is fine... just not something I would go out of my way to own... I do like the Lariat FX4...

One of my co-workers is tied into Ford through her son... who works for Ford corporate and they just happen to drive Ford because of a employee purchase program... apparently, it is good enough to buy new every couple of years and sell without getting beat up...

I use to know a retired Pontiac executive that could buy one new personal Pontiac at cost... and he did and said it make it worth getting a new every year.

For the rest of us we just have to find our own way and make the best deal we can... seems everyone from the credit union, bank, auto club and Costco is in the new car sales business.

"...like new 2013 .... with 63,000 miles for about the same price as a 2015-2016 work truck package..."

63,000 miles is a lot of miles for a vehicle 2 (and now 3) model-years old.

My wife's 2006 car, purchased new, has right about 63,000 miles on it. We hope to get another 5 years or so out of it, maybe more. If we had bought it used with 63,000 miles, it is unlikely that we could have expected 15 years (or maybe even 10 years) out of it before having to replace it. We would have been back in the car-buying market probably before now.

We keep vehicles a very long time, we start with new vehicles, and we only buy vehicles with a minimum amount of "bells and whistles" on them.

My personal opinion is that I would rather spend the same money on a new Vehicle(with less options) with zero-miles, more or less, and the full warranty, than on a "loaded" used vehicle with a lot of miles on it.

Other's opinions may differ.

today's prices are ludicrous for all brands. I get sticker shock every time I see them. I wonder how much the actual parts of the trucks add up to?

It still puzzles me why trucks made in Mexico (for penny's on the dollar in labor cost), cost the same as those made in US or Canada.

Haven't looked at used truck prices in some time. I bought my used 2007 Ram 2500 4x4 SLT Quad cab 5.9 about 6 yrs ago for 23 K. I currently have about 110 K miles on the truck..Just looking on autotrader.com . They are asking more$$ for The same yr/ mod. with more miles

I guess the new one will be in the garage tomorrow night... brother found the truck he liked except for price.

Dealer said he was getting a heck of a deal and he still walked.. also offered him 4800 for the car he bought for 85k 10 years ago which shows like new and only dealer service with 96k miles.

This afternoon the Dealer called him and asked what it would take to deliver... he said he was going to order through a family connections that works for Ford corporate and it would be a 2016... don't know what was said except they made the deal... I'm thinking of picking up his Range Rover for the $4800 he was offered for a trade???

I guess I've been asleep for about 20 years...

My brother is in the market for a new pickup and towing capacity along with being able to take the family are at the top of his list.

He has narrowed it down to the F150 crew cab with a 6.5' bed. There are plenty of crew cabs and most have the 5.5' bed.

MSRP on dealer lots around here show plenty in the 60k+ range...

So far about 7k off MSRP has been about the best he has been able to negotiate... still lots of money.

I'm going to buy a 2003 F150 for 2k and the sales tax on his new truck will be 3x that.

Maybe the 0% interest offered is bringing in the buyers... because they sure do seem to be selling.

Max Tow is 12,200 which is why the F150 would work for him... he is at 7500 now and has dump and stock trailers to move...

Unless he is towing a RV... he is limited to 10k with his license.

TBN must be responsible for lots of F150 sales because before reading the comments here... he was only looking at the Super Duty trucks.

Order one that is not loaded. All the gadgets in these new trucks are making the prices insane.

I think he is picking up the one on the Dealer lot... it is loaded with MSRP around 60k even...

Never thought I would own a Land Rover and I know they are expensive to maintain... his was pampered and damage free... seems $4850 trade in is a steal...

seems $4850 trade in is a steal...

Probably is a steal... Dealerships love for buyers to give them their vehicles. while you pay top dollar for theirs
