Yep, I recently found and bought a 16 gauge model 97 pump shotgun for $200 that was in really good shape. IIRC it was made in 1904 according to the serial number. The problem with a 16 gauge is paying the premium for shells. When you can find them regular 7 1/2 lead shot will be $17 per box when the same shells in 12 gauge will be only $6.

That's like the 28. I only allow myself one box per year, then I switch to the 20. If I was really hardcore I'd get into reloading.

I really don't notice the recoil, I like it because it's light to carry and come to my shoulder nicely.

They are one of the few things in Arkansas that you can kill as a nuisance animal also. Just about anything that walk, crawls or flies is protected unless there is a hunting season on it.

They are just a large rodent. Unless you ask someone from the college out in Oregon. Crazy mascots in Oregon, Beavers and Ducks.

This I didn't know. Guess it's nice to be a beaver in Canada!!!!

"Beavers are protected here because they are Canada's national animal."

Not true, at one time beavers were over trapped for the pelts to the point of near extinction and consequently declared an endangered species.

Problem is the beaver is basically a rodent and as such breeds like one resulting now in an overpopulation.

Nobody buys fur any more thanks to Bridgit, even the London (queen's guards) now wear synthetic hats.
Also I believe felt hats like worn traditionally by most gents used beaver fur to make the felt. But who today wears a fedora?

About the only fur trade left is with Russia and again only certain pelts are popular.
As a youngster I used to see trappers every spring going after muskrats, no more.

Seal hunting was once an east coast mainstay but again killed by Bridget, consequently certain fish populations are being devastated from the overabundance of hungry seals.

Heck who in his right mind is going to trudge in cold water to set a trap line for maybe $10 a pelt not forgetting, skinning, drying, tanning etc etc. Also the trapper now can only use a so called 'humane trap' costing $$$'s.
No ROI in trapping!

Fur prices also are controlled by Russian and Chinese markets. Right now the economies of both countries stink; which has deflated fur prices for the last two years.

I wish that you guys would stop sending your lynx down here. :D Once thesy cross the border they become an "endangered species", despite the fact that you guys trap (and hunt?) them. The regulations for equipment are getting so stringent that many trappers I know are leaving their steel in the shed this year. Too bad, because the coyote population was just getting low enough so that the deer are starting to recover.
