Any one have coyote problems?

Two weeks ago, I looked out the back door and saw one walking through the pasture. Then went to the side door to see where he was headed. There were 12 turkeys walking on that side. The coyote walked right past them, no more than 75 feet away. Of course, he was long gone by the time I got the rifle. Strange that he didn't pay attention to the turkeys.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more of them here in SE KY. There is a bear that stays back up the road a cpl miles on a regular basis, also bobcats in the area. Luckily haven't seen any wild hogs or signs of them. I'm sure there may be some though. The neighbor across the street sees & shoots the yotes near cow pasture often. I'll be keeping a closer eye out for them and keep a rifle in the truck.

Its been warm here in Northern Wis. today 70! there fur might not be prime now but I'm going to start calling them in and see if I can get that pack back in to shooting range! or maybe they will fine one of my dirt holes or snares.

A couple years ago we had 2 packs singing to each other from The hills on each side of my neighbors house, and one killed a cat in the corn field behind my house. Last year and this, no singing and no sign of them. I do suspect they are around here somewhere.

My sister has a place in central Va and has always had a lot of wild turkeys. For the last few years the hens will show up in the spring with a bunch of young and by the time spring is over they are by themselves. We assume the coyotes are to blame. Ed

I was grilling out a couple of nights ago and heard the coyotes going crazy not too far away. I'm sure they'd just killed their dinner. Prior to that, I hadn't heard any in a year or so.

A couple of years ago during a below-zero cold snap, I saw 6 of them coming up a run along the south border of our property. It was mid-day which is pretty unusual, but I'm sure they were pretty hungry. I should have called the neighbors across the road. I found out several weeks later that they lost several ducks about that same time. The ducks spent the rest of the winter inside one of their pole barns.

They are pretty thick around here but they are hunted pretty hard once the pelts get to "prime" (I think it's just another opportunity to get the boys together to drink beer). I had several just west of our house a few weeks ago and I mimicked their calls. They shut up pretty quick (guess I need to work on my technique). Our bigger problem now is wolves...they are back on the protected list thanks to people that like them but don't have to deal with them. While that battle continues, we're back to the "shoot/shovel/shut-up" days. I get the feeling that the DNR will look the other way if anybody reports a shooting.

I was stymied... the planet only spins in one direction. (Or the sun only orbits around the planet one way, depending on your viewpoint.)

So I need to ask you; "what direction does the sun rise from down there?"

I suppose if you are standing at the South Pole, then every direction from there is North. That means what is East at the Equator would be West, depending on how you are standing. Quite a stretch, both of the facts and the imagination.

Contrary to popular notion, coyote's out here in the Mojave are a good thing. Not being a farmer/rancher they provide a beneficial service. They keep the rodent population down. Food out here is very scarce so there are not many, but they will eat anything. A couple of weeks ago the apples on my 2 trees were just about ripe. They are young trees and only about 7' to 8' tall.

One night they cleaned off 90% of the apples. The only ones left were at the very top of the trees. I cage the trunks with chicken wire to keep the hares from chewing the bark off. Like I said, food is very scarce out here. The yote's used the chicken wire to climb the trees and it ended up in a squashed pile a the base of the trunk.

We used to see 7-9 does in the herd that hangs around the house. Now we see 2-4 does. Usually two though I did see a doe with two SPOTTED fawns a few weeks ago.

The coyotes have just torn up the deer herd here. I have found deer bones next to our front porch, deer parts back by the barn, and at least twice, the coyotes have been howling in our back yard, just feet from our room. I assume they made a kill in the backyard. A few years ago we heard them chasing a deer in circles on our place. I went out to see if I could see them but the deer senses us and ran off to the west with the 'yotes following.

The other night I heard the coyote pack howling to our east a good distance away. Sounded like they were on the south edge of a field that holds cattle but I think those beeves are too big to mess with.
