Good morning!!!!

I'm having an issue with my little limbing saw, the 18" Echo 420. The chain keeps popping off, typically cutting small limbs out of the way so I can get to the rounds... I thought maybe I was letting it get too loose, but hmmm...

Maybe time for a new bar?

The compression will be 9.5:1. The pistons are flat topped but the combustion chamber is domed except out at the edges, where there's about a quarter inch wide squish band. A dated design, and one that promotes detonation with what passes for gas these days, and why the second plug is needed. What I find most interesting is that the advance setting on the timing must be dropped from 35 degrees to 28 degrees. That keeps the piston from working against too much combustion pressure on the way up to TDC. It's what you'd expect, as with two plugs firing, it takes less time for the fuel to burn and combustion pressure rises faster. Forget to change the timing and the fuel mileage deteriorates and power is lost, not gained. It was also surprising that no changes were needed in the carburetors. They're constant velocity Bings, so maybe that explains it. :confused3:

A buddy of mine takes high compression pistons in his TT600's and puts really nice radii on all corners left from machining. He also swears by taping off the sides and bottom of the pistons after he handworks the tops and then glass beads the tops. He says that it really helps the detonation. But we are talking 11.5:1
As fun as it is, we have found that you don't want to lug the engines either (giving full throttle at low rpm). Hard on head gaskets. He sometimes adds a shot of toluene to the gas...

Good Morning! 44F @ 7:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 63F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.

Another night with no beeps so it looks like the alarm system gremlins have gone back to sleep. So this morning I'll take the extension ladder out of the living room and put that away. So far I've avoided hitting my head on it:laughing:

Started to clean the crown ridge out of the top of the old engine cylinders yesterday, as leaving it in place could damage the rings on the new pistons. It was harder than a rock and just laughed off attempts with a wire brush, so the barrels have been soaking in detergent overnight in hopes of softening things up. Got the assembly area cleaned up and all the parts located and laid out, so am pretty close to putting everything back together.

But that'll all have to wait. The little grocery store down in Plymouth, CA is having its annual wine sale, and a buddy and I are going to do our usual taste and buy today. Most years we end up purchasing about ten bottles, taking tiny sips out in the parking lot, then loading up on cases of ones we like. A few times we've then headed to a nice nearby campground for a BBQ and camp, but this year Mother Nature isn't cooperating. Rain is forecast for this afternoon, with showers on and off for the next ten days. No huge accumulations, but signs that El Nino is finally waking up.

To get the truck ready, I clay barred all the bugs and over spray off the windshield, then installed new wiper blades. With the new tires, it's ready for the flood!

Hope everyone enjoys a great weekend!

Brand new saw...

Love my Stihl MS 192 T C-E. It's five years old now, starts with one or two pulls every time, cuts like a demon, and is very light. With a 14" bar it does 90% of my firewood harvesting. Even better (and I'm probably going to hex myself for saying this) I've had zero trouble with it. Just a new chain once in a while, clean the air filter, and keep the gas and bar oil topped up.

Good morning all. 43F this morning, partly cloudy, light east breeze. Forecast for 65F, mostly cloudy and light to moderate breeze. Last couple of days have been reasonably productive, got leaves mowed, boat seat is out, caught up on bike maintenance. Today is lunch in Arlington, which will make an all day affair. Did catch 1 gremlin yesterday, Samsung power supply finished of two capacitors, now takes 5 minutes to start :( . Can't find any really good capacitors locally(low ESR rated @ 105C), so will need to mail order.
pic of North Texas mushrooms:

Probably best not to ingest those 'shrooms in any form or fashion...Just a hunch.

What gremlin on what device? Samsung power supply?

66°F and 3.67 inches rain last 24 hours.

I finally gave up my ATT unlimited data a few months ago for similar reasoning. Now I have 3 iPhones on a shared rollover plan and saving money.

Be safe
Have a great day

Brand new saw...

David

David, if it's really really new, it's just the new chain stretching. I find I tighten it once a lot, then a little, then it stays there. And then
tighten the two cover bolts firmly.

First snow of the season. Right on time for opening day deer tracking. Also pretty much on the historical schedule for those looking for weather trends.

still looking at stihl pole saws. thinks more about the easy start one. ht 56 ce. not as long as some of the others, but only one with easy start and it comes apart in 2 pieces for easy transport.

working all morning on getting the new phone set up, reload apps, etc.. verizon did import my contacts from my old sim, via bluetooth. looking for a way to upload my old calendar settings the same way.
