the simple grounding test shows the warning light is functional.
Is this something that should happen when key is in 'ON' position but engine not yet engaged, or is it something you do once in a while to confirm the light works?

I'm thankful to have my oil gauge (though I wish I could do the install in the dash over) My oil light is pretty flaky (new one on the way from Hoye) but with the gauge I can tell that things are fine. I do see variations in pressure from about 60psi when cold down to about 20psi when really lugging down. Not sure what that means, but if I remember correctly, the light shouldn't come on until it gets down about 5psi.

Easiest fix is just to break the wire out of a glass fuse and screw it in place of the blown one.

YM240 simple test of the temperature warning light:

Ignition on, slide the connector at the temp sensor up to expose naked metal. Touch a grounded wire to that metal, or to the conductor that goes back to the light.

Grounding the sensor end of the signal wire should illuminate the light on the dash.

This still doesn't tell you the sensor is good, it just verifies the wiring and bulb.

This is as good a place to start as any. I honestly can't remember ever seeing that Temp light on so knowing the bulb works eliminates one variable. And if I get that temp gauge installed that will help confirm the temp. Thanks for the tip.

! I still have a temperature gauge I bought in 2003 when I bought the YM240. I never got around to installing it because I've never seen apparent overheating. My occasional tests with a 'infrared' remote thermometer, when hot, show temperatures well within normal limits, and the simple grounding test shows the warning light is functional.
I always like a gauge myself...its always in my mind what it that last big bump took out the element in the warning light??? I too have just the light and only saw it come on once when i first gotit and was not in the habit of checking and clearing the front screen of seeds and grass fluff

on my tractor someone had very thin solder wired inbetween the screws. Worked but was a poor choice , vibration took them out. I bought the tiny replacemts from hoye for it but for some reason the replacement fuse strips were to long and left them bunched up in between the screws. I replaced it cause they look cleaner and has easily replaceable blade ATO fuses.

I think it also light up when you first turn the ignition on to tell you it works? could be wrong maybe that the oil and charge light?

Oil and charge light up before starting, not temp, on YM240 and I assume YM2000.

They improved this on later models, so that all light up before the engine runs.

I knew one of them didnt...just been so long since i have been on the tractor and paid attention.

Last time i ran it was end of september.

I have video of it but can't put it up here so a pic or 2 will have to do. WP_20151121_12_42_17_Pro.jpgWP_20151121_12_42_19_Pro.jpg
