Yeah, that's what we are referring to as "Beet Juice".

My Brother had it in all four tires on his Kubota L3240. Only thing I saw wrong was you had to keep the front tires at a pretty high PSI or the juice would seep out between the tire and rim.

Yep. Loaded the rears on my M9540 in my shop. Pumped 180 gallons of fluid in them. Took a couple hours to do but saved me a ton of money.

I get used antifreeze from small garages. They usually have drums of the stuff and are usually quite willing to give it away.

The smartest dog I ever had was maybe 2 years old at the time and was drawn like flies to cowpies when I left a pan of antifreeze unguarded for 5 minutes. I caught him with his mug in it and rushed him to the vet.

Vet gave him an IV of Everclear which I calculated to be the equivalent of my taking 6 oz of 100 proof vodka on an empty stomach all in one swallow. [The ethanol-which is what Everclear is-prevents the production of toxic metabolites which result in the formation of calcium oxalate crystals in the kidneys .] The crystals cause kidney damage/failure and death within a very few days. Works the same way in humans except that humans have access to kidney dialysis.

Dog stood there for maybe a minute following the IV and then just folded over like a drunk falling off a barstool. Kept giving him the Everclear plus IV Valium several X daily for a couple of days to prevent the seizures which are a side effect of the ethylene glycol metabolites, then slowly brought him out of the drug stupor and he was fine. Lived to almost 13. Vet said if I had not gotten him to the clinic within an hour he probably wouldn't have made it.

MORAL: NEVER be a moron like I was and leave ANY ethylene glycol-based antifreeze where an animal can find it. This means even what looks like a minor leak on the driveway. ALWAYS rinse spills immediately with a lot of water. Takes only a couple of teaspoons to kill a cat or dog. It has a sweet taste which is why so many animals are attracted.

BACK TO TOPIC:

I just finished putting 76 gallons of -20F w/w fluid in my 13.6-24 rear tires on my old Case 530CK hoe. Dealer wanted ~ $350 to put calcium chloride in 'em and I would have had to haul the beast 10 miles each way. The "beet juice" was even more spendy, about $500, of which about $180 was their labor.

The w/w fluid and valve cost me $125 and about three hours of time. The methanol in the fluid is also toxic but as an earlier poster noted, animals aren't attracted to it like they are to antifreeze and it's not supposed to corrode the rims like CaCl2.

I've had dogs/cats living in my shop for 21 years. At the peak, 5 dogs and 2 cats. It's common for there to be antifreeze spills on the floor or open pans of it sitting around. Never had an incident. Guess it's lucky my pets aren't morons like me. :)

A dealer by me will put beet just/rim guard into the tires for a little more then 300.!

I got a quote for beet juice in my bobcat ct440 of just over $200 for the rear tires. That was me taking the tires to them. I believe they said it would increase the weight by about 385 bounds per tire?
