I think most people don't want to die in a home invasion or robbery and statistics like this picture are a driving factor of why people feel the need to protect themselves....

Here's a picture of a crime map of my hometown from June-Today, so 6 months.
The area is about 7 miles wide by 5 miles deep.
989 incidents.
Homicide, Breaking and Entering, Robbery, Theft, Theft of a vehicle, theft from a vehicle, vehicle recovery, sexual offense, assault, and property crime are listed.

Okie Dokey.. Um.. I hate to tell you this, but I think you live in a high crime area. I am thinking proper evening wear would include an AR-15 with 30 round mag, and a few spares, as well as your choice of sidearm.

In my 30+ and my son's 5+ so far career interviewing criminals and victims of crime neither of us can remember interviewing anyone who thought they might some day be victims.

We know of several incidents, but were not directly involved, in which private citizens defended themselves with a weapon, one was a woman who killed an intruder with a 12 gauge shotgun loaned to her by a neighbor as she didn't have the money to buy a gun. She had been beaten and raped in her home a few days previous. Patrols were increased in her area, but no one was close enough to render timely assistance.

I don't have the current figures but the majority of LEO's will go their entire career and not use their weapon at least here in the USA....

I will quibble about the use of the "use." :laughing::laughing::laughing:

The above statement is true if the word "use" is changed to "fire." Officers use their weapons more often than one thinks, but "use" does not mean "fire."

The difference is important and fire arms are far more likely to be "used" in self defense that does not including firing the weapon. This is true for LEO and non LEOs.

The closest city to me is Birmingham,, Very high crime rate in my opinion for it's size ,79-80 homicides so far. I have no idea of how many break ins, robberies , etc...
The thugs from Birmingham, are venturing out to surrounding cities committing their crimes..
The big thing here now is carjacking. While stopped at a red light or they bump into the back of you,and when you get out to look at the damage, they take your vehicle.
I carry almost everywhere.. I refuse to be a victim of these thugs !

Interesting thread.... Of those of carry, how many have used your weapon in defending yourself or your family in a situation, and what was the outcome?

It has been my experience that many if not most who have used their firearm in a deadly force incident prefer not to discuss it.

My impression of NY's inquiry was that it's a highly rhetorical question. It will be interesting to see where he goes with the responses.

I figured as much, just trying to cut off any claims that because no one answered his "question" it would be "proof" of nothing.

All gun related threads seem to follow the same pattern which will inevitably include a challenge as to the "need" to carry and often goes downhill from there. I was somewhat reluctant to post anything, but we see how that worked out.

This statement is easy to make and has been made by many in various forms but exactly how would the people in that particular situation have faired much better with a 'few people" armed with side arms in the context of the situation? They were there for a metal band concert so maybe they could have gotten away with different arms than a group going to an opera or something similar. Specifically, going up against 5 people armed with Kalashnikov automatics who have the advantage of shooting at their targets from a balcony, and who have explosives, how would a "few people armed" make much difference?

(Granted, if I had been there I would have wanted to be armed rather than not be. That's not the question.)

I have always wondered why those that don't feel the need to carry, always seem to have the need to question the needs of those that do. Why not just "not carry" if you don't want to carry? Why do you feel it is wrong for others to carry?
