Interesting thread.... Of those of carry, how many have used your weapon in defending yourself or your family in a situation, and what was the outcome?

I've not had to use mine. We are an open carry state..Most times I O C.

That would be my question too. I am amazed at the expressed need here to have a gun/revolver, a few seconds away ...just in case.
Now don't get me wrong , I own a few rifles myself for hunting and for varmits on my farm, but they are over in the garage locked up. I have never been in a situation in my 58 years where I would of been able to handle the situation better with a gun. As a Canadian, am I ignorant to the situations that occur in the USA ? There must be a risk versus reward decision you are all making having a revolver where you need to mitigate the risk of making a wrong decision with it, or children having unforeseen access in rare occasions. ...........seriously how many defend situations have you had to make in your time of carry/conceal.......versus how many close calls of gun being accessible to someone who should not .........A serious question , no judgement , just wondering, how do you decide if it is worth it.

It has been my experience that many if not most who have used their firearm in a deadly force incident prefer not to discuss it.

I'm more likely to carry extra mags for ar or ak than for my cc. In the many years I've only had a cpl times that I thought the potential existed of pulling it. It's that gut feeling that you're quickly found yourself cornered in a bad scenario. It's mostly carried for peace of mind for the what if. If I ever had to pull my cc, someone's getting shot. Heaven forbid it ever comes to that.
In my previous line of work I had been shot at a cpl times, but was fortunate enough not to have returned fire or hit.
Depending on the climate I cc either a .45,9mm or 380. No extra mags usually unless sometimes in car or travel bag.
Night stand is a ,.45,ultra fire flashlight & hearing protection. Sometimes .45 is replaced with mossy500 cruiser w/ pres pad momentary light.
I do have a oc holster that has xtra mag in pouch I carry on farm/ woods sometimes.
As another mentioned, if I have time to reload, I have time to get away. So carrying extra mag for cc is not practical to me.

That's a reasonable question. I don't think there is a one size fits all answer to it. Fortunately a great many who carry will never have to pull, let alone fire their weapon in defense. That said, there are countless individuals who have had to do just that and are alive today because of it. Me personally, I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. There is just no way anyone can know beforehand what situations will develop during the day. With the deterioration of society as a whole, I suspect more and more people will experience situations they never thought possible in their lifetime.

I don't have the current figures but the majority of LEO's will go their entire career and not use their weapon at least here in the USA.
I guess that proves the statistics that you don't have to worry about 90% of the population hurting you. 10% are thinking if they won't get hurt then they will try to take advantage. 1% will take advantage regardless of the risk.

I keep a Sig 1911 with laser sites in the night stand for the 1%. Keep a few others around the house so I don't have to go looking for a gun.

When I lived in the small town of Emporia KS we had a guy called the 2 o'clock bandit. Each day he would knock on a door and if you answered he pulled a gun and robbed you. I don't know if they ever caught him.

WOW!!! Just logged on this thread. Wow is all that comes to mind. Yes I have a CCL and have had since they came out. Mostly because I don't want to wait 3 days for my gun, I want to go home and fire it. I like guns, I like shooting guns, I even have my own range in the back field. And yes I carry when I have to rekey a foreclosed house. I have never had to pull it because if it is squatters there can talk to them, and if I don't like the situation I let the LEO's clear it.

For those of you that have your little PPK's or LC9's and think it would of been better if someone carried in France, you would of helped the terrorist's. Only if you were next to the person could you have done anything. There is a big difference in shooting at the range than shooting in a panicked situation in a crowd of innocents.

I guess I have a bit of John Wayne attitude with no regard for human life if it is a threat to my wife or me, but still try to defuse any trouble before it starts. I am sad that it has come to having to conceal. In the words of Archie Bunker, if everyone had a gun exposed, then others would be hesitant to start trouble.

I also find it sad that the CCW's in this state are regulated by the "Dept. of Agriculture" and FL was one of the first states to develop the CCL in which most states follow.

The caring of a gun is not only to protect me from a bad guy, but from some dog breeds.. There have many dog attacks here, where grown men have been killed.. I had a pit climb the fence on me the other day while I was on my daily 2 mile walk.. I use an entire can of dog spray B-4 the dog retreated.. Had the dog spray not sent the dog running. I would have shot the dog to save myself and my dog

There must not be any bad things that happen in Canada.. If there had been a few people in that Paris concert caring, .Things may have turned out very differently

Armed Robbers Outmatched By Female Pawn Shop Owner

News clip showing two armed robbers trying to rob a pawn shop and the elderly female employee pulls her pistol and gets off a couple of shots, then the criminals shoot back a few times. Lots of things to see here to think about.
