Yes , love the creature comfort of the newer trucks , but could climb in my old ford with the I-6 , now the octopus of line and wires , relay , delays , ssr's and boards make the new ones a real nightmare to play with, sure would like to see a little common sense out there , and the aluminum body ? Can't wait to see how that holds up to a Pa winter with the salt and spray, have seen how a cast aluminum box holds up in a parking lot ...powder...

Aluminum bodies are old news. Feed trucks boxes, Freightliner Cabs, Ranger Rovers... The list goes on...

Chevy made the junk 4.3l v6 from the basic castings of the 1970's 350 v8 with the purpose of being a bottom of the barrel budget engine option for those who couldn't afford a purpose design engine. Very low horsepower, bad vibrations,etc... What GM succeeded in, was a near zero r&d bill for that platapus. Years later, instead of burying it, they made small incremental fixes/improvements.
The straight 6's were purpose built.
Opinions vary greatly, but I know at least a half dozen people personally to put well over 200k on 4.3 V-6's. A couple over 300k - main issue was and is vortex intake gasket/Dexcool in 1996 or newer engines. The 5.7 had and has the same issue, but has been extremely reliable for many folks. Sorry if you have experienced otherwise.

I had a 89 with a 4,3. Biggest POS I have had to date. Motor blew under 30K. Transfer case shortly after. I traded it at 35K after about a dozen other issues and fighting wit GM that included 2 lawyers. It was a pig towing compared to the V6 Ranger it replaced and the 4 Cylinder Toyota that replaced it.

Can't say I'd blame you for not buying GM again. As previously noted - opinions vary greatly.
