In 2009 I was riding my motorcycle at about 35 mph and was t-boned by a car driver who didn't see me. Got to ride the helicopter to the trauma center... They amputated my right leg just above the knee. It could have been worse- I'm thankful I didn't lose an arm and that I'm not paralyzed. Phantom pains were really bad the first couple of months, and I still have them every now and then- it feels like someone is butchering my right foot and calf. To this day my right foot still feels like it is there- just numb and tingly like it is half asleep.

I get around very well on my prosthetic without a cane- just a slight limp. I still have the left foot/leg for working the tractor clutch pedal and for shifting the 4 wheeler.

I joke with people that I have one foot in the grave :)

Man, that sucks. One reason I never rode motorcycles, especially given my ineptness with those things. Have a couple friends who have both spent time in the ICU; one hit a car one hit a deer. Amazingly enough, I have an acquaintance who is a retired orthopedic surgeon who loves his Harley...in spite of the unfortunate riders he has put back together! That tells me there is an inexplicable attachment between a man and his cycle!

Not really an accident but a few days after rotator surgury, I woke up about 4am with pain in my lung. I kind of knew what was going on. I awoke my wife and she drove us to ER. As we suspected, the OR doc confirmed that I had blood clots in my lung. The doc and pretty much everyone else kept telling me how lucky I was to be alive. Honestly, though I was grateful, I was pretty calm overall. I just said, it was not my decision and I have things to do. As far as I was concerned, the next six days of shots of Lomenex in the stomach every six hours were worse. That and a 30 buck co-pay for pin prick blood tests the next six months.

Im a young guy (18) and have been pretty lucky. The worst i can think of was getting a sore ******** 5 years ago.

I can relate. Testicular torsion surgery when I was 10. That was probably the worst pain of my life!

The worst injury when I was a kid was when my brother was cutting through a bagel whilst holding it in his hand....he sliced through both.

Speaking of cutting ones self, a few years ago I had come home (OTR Trucking at the time), I had 8 hours to (a) get a shower +(b) get some food into me + (c) get some sleep, so I was in a bit of a hurry. We had some really ripe tomatoes which I like, so I took the big carving knife [the sharpest knife in the drawer] and started slicing the tomatoes. I got a little too close to my ring finger on my left hand and took the end of it off right to the bone. There went my 8 hours sleep right out the window. A trip to ER got that sorted. Only got about 3 hours sleep.:(

Dislocated left shoulder (I'm left handed). High school football 1956 when sports medicine was non-existent. Three guys in the ER held me down on the table while the fourth rotated the arm and popped the bone back into the socket. Worst pain I've had so far. Six months recovery. Healed fine. Could play catch with my kids when they were growing up. Still do at age 74 with the grandkids.
