I remember when I was a little kid, I noticed one of the neighborhood dad's hands had an index finger, a shorter middle finger, an even shorter ring finger and a stub of a pinky. I remember I was only tall enough to maybe put my nose on the table, so I must have looked pretty funny. Anyhow, he and my dad were working on some project and I kept staring at his hand. Finally, I just blurted out "How come your fingers are short?". He looked at me, put the hand with short fingers flat on the table, and while running his other hand in a fat line over it, said something like "Power saw!" I jumped! He and dad had a good laugh over that and I've respected power saws ever since.

A great lesson for a little kid.

I saw a lot of crazy stuff when I was a little kid. My dad was some kind of nutty professor, architect, explosives-mad scientist renaissance cross, my neighbors dads were mostly architects, artists and engineers. There was a lot of experimentation, late-night welding and large fires going on in that block!

(Commercial pilot / Flight Instructor) at night, total darkness (no lights in sight) after a storm, caught in downdraft. Knew I was going down and only thing I would do was fly instruments, wings level and aircraft straight. Around 120mph totaled aircraft, broken back, collapsed lung, 5 broken ribs, broken foot and took 13 units of blood to save.
Also lost eyesight in one eye due to high pressure in hospital and they didn't do anything about it. Anyway, to look at me now you can't tell it.. everybody says I'm lucky..I just tell them my mom says I'm fortunate, if I was lucky it wouldn't have happened.
Interesting thing is I had Rosacia bad but after all the blood, antibiotics and drugs my Rosacia went away and no sign of it for several years now...I don't recommend this procedure though..lol

First grade, gravel road on our farm with steep hill, bicycle, no helmet.

I'd been taught not to steer too abruptly (just learning at this point). I saw a huge wash out ahead of me. Barely turned away from it.

Next thing I know I'm in a neighbors truck on the way to the hospital, mom is there crying. Pass out.

Then I wake up again, a lady is cutting my clothes off, it's the girl from school I have a crush on's mother! Pass out.

Fast forward a few days, I'm in the ICU, wondering what happened. Stitches in my knee and head. Major concussion. Spent a week there.

Maybe that's part of my problem now???

Ha,ha,ha--------- I just knew somebody was going to jump on that.

I've been pretty fortunate in all my years. Two years ago, while out & about on the property, I stepped on a small rock that twisted and I went down hard on my left shoulder. It has pained me ever since. The Dr said I damaged the cartilage in my shoulder joint & damaged a nerve. He said if it got too bad they might have to put in a titanium replacement joint. You know - the though of having a new shoulder joint, the surgery & the physical therapy - the shoulder quit hurting so bad, after all.

Ossik, you might want to check out stem cell therapy for your shoulder, a friend of mine had some torn rotates cuff injuries repaired that way a year or so ago. He's back to playing golf now. Their is a clinic that does this procedure now in Hood River Oregon. Takes a while to work after the procedure but beats having a titanium replacement.

Early 90's.
When I busted my knee in the late 50s (1958), much the same accident that you had, I was in hospital for 6 weeks heavily doped up for the first two. That is until I found out that morphine will bung you up. Then another 4 weeks in a heavy duty cast at home. That dam cast weighed about 60lbs!

Mapper,

Thanks for the info. The left shoulder will still bother me at times. I think now its mostly weather related - cold, damp wx can be a pain. It would probably be better if I continued the at-home therapy the Dr recommended also. I will definitely log your info for a time when the shoulder might take a turn for the worse.
