Going to try this one. You can also get ascorbic acid in the canning section of the store. We have a big jug of the stuff.

Later,
Dan

So...you just dump the powder into the rinse dispenser? What is the ratio? We have used Jet-Dri in our GE dishwasher since it was new (2003) and the cost is very low. Come on now. I want to learn REAL FACTS from members who have used this method of ascorbic acid...not just hearsay. And BTW. what rgustafson says about using distilled water to top off batteries...I have NOT HAD TO TOP OFF A BATTERY THE LAST 15 years...be it a car, truck, ATV, tractor, RV, battery, whatever....

Huh?

I said I would try the ascorbic acid and see if it worked. I did not say I had tried it or it did work.

Given that a TBNer said he had used it and it worked, I would think that is a fact. The person who suggested to use ascorbic acid mentioned the amount to use.

Later,
Dan

Guess you are just lucky then. Ever check your batteries? Sent from my iPad using TractorByNet

You still have batteries that are not sealed/maintenance free?

Geeze! I thought this thread was about coffee makers? I keep distilled water around JIC I need some for batteries. No, not all are sealed, guess it the distilled water keeping them going?

I have to pay 88 cents a gallon at Wally World, and use the distilled water in my CPAP machine, but have never used it in the coffee maker.

You have a touchy CPAP, Mine takes tap water no issue.

I suspect mine would, too, but the initial instructions were to use distilled water, so I've been doing that.

Bought four bottles of descaler at $4 each and wife had $5 off $15 coupon. Sometimes that coupon stuff amazes me. I will use it whenever the warning comes up on the machine. Don't want that problem again.

I know even less about those fancy coffee makers than I do batteries. I remember adding water to batteries, I just didn't remember doing it in a long time. Just commenting, not trying to stir the (coffee?) pot.

Yes, we use about a teaspoon in the rinse dispenser. It works far better than the commercial products. We were using a commercial "spot eliminator" that was not doing the job, thus the question to the repairman. I looked up the record when we bought this stuff (I use Quicken). We bought 30 pounds from Sure Crop Feeds in Grindrod for $85.50 including tax(probably around 12%) on December 1, 2005. We still have a couple of small pails of the stuff and gave samples to friends.

It is great for cleaning scale and sediment off copper plumbing fittings, garden sprinklers, etc. If you put them in a dish with a strong solution small bubbles start immediately and the fittings will be completely cleaned.

Here's a photo of a couple of tap fixtures I cleaned just for fun when I changed them last year. I don't have "before" photos but they were completely covered and gummed-up with green and white scale:

kco, thanks for the clarification...I will give your method a try but am darned if I am going to buy 30 pounds... but we do have a problem here with super hard water although it is run through a premium softener which helps somewhat.
