I think I have seen threads talking about this subject. Anyone ever done it? If so, can you elaborate on the setup you used and would you recommend it? Pictures if available would be great.

There have been several threads on this site about doing just that, with lots of pic's. Have you tried doing some searches, here and maybe in the "Projects" forum? Shouldn't be too hard to find some.

I'll be honest. I've never been very good/lucky searching for old threads. I guess a little laziness might factor in the equation as well. Maybe someone with some knowledge of the subject will see this and respond.

I simply made a prepass with the subsoiler to ensure that the trench was open with no roots, rocks, or other surprises. Then used a short piece of chain bolted to the end of the pipe and pulled the pipe through on the return trip. I had the pipe laid out and a helper to insure taht the pipe fed into the tranch properly. I wasn't worried about maintaining a fixed depth or slope either. Pull was around 100' at 14 - 16" deep.

That's an interesting way of doing it. So the pipe was dragged through the ground while you were pulling it?

The way I've always seen it done is with a subsoiler making a pass with the pipe located over the SS in a big reel and the ground pulling the pipe through the SS and getting buried. I've never done it, just see youtube vids of it.

When I was a kid my dad did it this way and buried 1000 ft of pipe in one pull. It worked well but we had a hump in the pipe somewhere in the 1000 ft and it would freeze if we had a long spell of temp's down in the teens. I would make a gadget to check for how deep the pipe is. An iron bar with a little "v" welded to the top so it would catch the pipe. Just a thought.
I don;t think this would work if you had to do through a low spot with a high spot on each side. The pipe would be pulled up and freeze. Ed

I have been kicking around the idea of building a 4" shoe to bolt on the back of my JD 10A subsoiler. The 10" wide "laser tip" with the mole ball opens up a large channel.

Any chance you might have a picture or link to this laser tip or mole ball?
