Proper Cold Weather Starting

I replaced the fuel hose and wire that connects the thermostart to the ignition. Now I just need to figure how to cap the cup. Previous owner had it taped over with masking tape. I also need some diesel fuel which I'll pick up when I'm in town today. Hopefully this will be everything I need. Thoughts on a cap? I'm thinking some light-weight bike tire inner tube and a piece of wire.

Almost anything should work for a cap.

Wooly...hate to ask, but did you confirm that your thermostart works - heats up?

Of course not. :mur: When I went out this morning before leaving for work to try the thermostart, the battery was dead. If I engage the thermostart for 15 seconds should I be able to feel heat on the metal surrounding it? If not, I guess removing the air inlet hose would give me a the view you posted in your movie? Maybe that's the best way to tell.

You do it your way, carey, I'll do it mine.

That was ScottyDrive's video... Going to have to rely on memory:confused2: and say that after a couple 10-15 second 'uses' of the thermostart I could feel the metal get warm around it. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow morning.

I've tested the TS by feeling for warmth. It is apparent, warmer than cold metal, but not hot.

On the YM2500 bought from Spalding In Ga. I never had to set the Throttle over 1300-1500 rpms either on the Yrs. I used it. Or a problem with the Thermal Start for that matter. How you set the Throttle should not prevent it from Cranking Over. "Carey on TBN Forum".

Sorry about the mixup. Apologies to you and Scotty. The Hoye link someone provided said after replacing a unit, it could take 15 or so attempts to get the air out. I'll certainly have to do that since my fuel line was removed and is now filled with air. I'll certainly need a fully charged battery for that. Thanks.

I don't know if my hands are well calibrated but I'll give this a try when I get home on Saturday.
