I'll be the first to say I don't know squat about Case tractors. But I have NEVER seen a direct start diesel on a 6 volt system. Does it have 2 6 volt batteries wired in series?

Been there. PHD with an 8N (well mine was a 2N) is a PITA. Got it stuck too many times. Then you spend all your time and energy to extract it. It's a man killer. And as mentioned, too fast of ground speed for a rototiller.

Been there and done that with the old 8N. Lots of fun with a big pipe wrench and a long breaker bar unwinding that thing. :ashamed: Glad I have the 'bota to do that kind of stuff now. The N is a great grass cutter/food plot tractor.

The diesel Case will save you lots of $ on fuel if you plan to use it for many hours a year- though it may be a pain to start in really cold weather. I have a Case 530 diesel backhoe.

My first tractor was a Case SC, liked it a lot. Had two rear remotes that I used to run a logging winch and the Eagle Claw hitch. Definitely a great tractor for its time. Hope you are taking care of yours.

Yes- it was my great grand father's tractor so it stays in the shed. I haven't started it for about 2 years but it was my main workhorse for cutting/raking/baling hay 10 years ago. I turn the engine once or twice a year to be sure it isn't freezing up. There are many times that I miss the tight turning radius of the narrow front end...

I would run it occasionally and give it a chance to warm up the crankcase fully. Tractors that sit die a slow death.
