Frigidare icemaker making thumping noise

One year old fridge, icemaker suddenly started making this noise tonite. Before I go tearing into it deeper any ideas of what it might be??

Sounds like it is coming from the left side in the wall of the fridge

I've replaced several ice makers. It's easy and I get them locally for around 60 bucks.

Don't waste too much time trying to fix it.

I turned the ice maker off and it still made the noise. Now a few hours later and the noise is gone. We'll see if it returns.

The ice maker in my previous fridge made a very similar noise. Its was the unit cycling between make ice & done making ice. The "wand" that determines how much ice was in the storage tray had slipped a cog and was causing the unit to cycle. I moved the cog end up a notch and it then worked fine. That was until I opened the fridge one day and the "magic wand" was haywire again and the ice maker was well on its way to filling the entire fridge with ice cubes.

BTW - after 28 years the old fridge finally gave up. My new unit DOES NOT have an auto ice maker.

Wonder if something happened to cause an "iceberg" over the cutting wires and the feeding mechanism was playing "I think I can...". My mother in law had that happen on her new fridge because she shut the icemaker off mid-cycle (she watches pennies...sometimes I shake my head). We did a manual defrost and everything returned to normal. I told to leave it alone from now on.

Yep. The heater that causes the cubes to release and fall isn't working. When they make that thumping noise its time to replace them.
