Girls and guns

Not a girl but when my stepson was 11 we were at the range shooting when a friend showed up and we talked a little and he asked to shoot my .44 He shot three rounds and said it was to much for him. We stepped outside the glass and as we talked about my stepson opened up with HIS .44. The guy was standing there with his mouth open. Here was an 11 yr old shooting a Super Blackhawk with an 10 1/2" barrel hitting what he aimed at and I don't mean a big man target. He had been shooting mine and liked it so I got him one just like it. I never regretted teaching him young. Ed
Boys, girls, petite women - they can surprise you with their firearms proficiency if you're not used to seeing them. Or getting beat by them in competition.

I have to say.. Good on him. He has made a choice for he and his. He did not condemn guns. He did not impose his will on us. Unlike the socialist liberal democrats in the good ole USA. From a 2nd amendment supporting American.
He was still trying to stir up trouble.

My wife's favorite gun to shoot is her G19, but she carries her 649 more often. When acclimating her to firearms, after the .22, I used down loaded .38 Specials, lots of wadcutters then on up to Super Vels as 9mms were rare back then. She worked up to a .44 Mag full power, but we no longer shoot much, so 9mms are her favorite and reasonably priced.

Twenty years ago I tried teaching my wife how to shoot a pistol because we lived in the boonies and I worked screwy hours. I took her out on the deck and handed her my 1911 and was going to have her bang a few. She took one shot and somehow the casing jumped up and hit her in the forehead. That was it for her. But after reading these posts I just asked her again if she would want to learn to shoot a pistol. To my surprise she said yes. This time I will give her my Browning clip fed 22. A nice heavy gun and not to much recoil.

Better yet, maybe I will ask my BIL to teach her the next time he comes over. He was a gun nut and instructor. She might listen to him more openly.

Just like teaching a spouse to drive a stick shift. Better left to someone else.

I forgot to mention in the thread about my granddaughters, my wife has had her carry permit for several years and has several of her own guns. She shoots everything I have and is a very good shot. The first time she fired a high powered rifle, my Model 1917 Enfield .303, fired 4 rounds and hit 3 out of 4 clay pigeons on the berm at 100 yds....with original sights. She just joined my local shooting range. :)

Been married a long time. Taught my wife to swim and taught her to shoot, too. Both are necessary skills.
We have two grown children. Taught both of them to shoot. Started on .22's. My daughter never really got passed the rimfires, but shoots them well. (rifle and pistol) My son, however, loves to bird hunt and shoots often.
I've had a carry permit for years, and carry daily.
So far, no one else in my family carries, but that's a big decision, and a personal one.

To all of my fellow "carriers," my hat's off to you.
To all who say, "no guns for me," you better pray that one of us is around to save your hide when the proverbial stinky stuff hits the fan.

Kiddo shot 225 and I shot 239. Not too bad, I don't think.

Good idea. It is very difficult to teach spouse without being impatient and critical. Your spouse will do better with a different teacher. I have seen this many times.

I actually taught my wife to drive (like drive period, not a stick), shoot and run a tractor... Not sure how we're still married and I'm still alive. :)
