Yes Richard it does change the landscape going forward.
The bad thing is I don't even burn wood. I lost 80% of the woods, broke them off 30 feet up.
I have a fellow helping cut them up and I load the 8 ft logs in his trailer with a dump box. he has an out side wood boiler.

Depending on the major truck stop in question, many of them go thru several tanker loads of fuel each day. Some have a pair of tankers that are doing almost 24 hr round the clock tag teams bringing fuel. They will have up to 10 truck fuel pumps that always seem to have a study flow of trucks going thru them, with each truck probably averaging putting on 100+ gallons a shot. My truck alone eats about 20,000 gallons of diesel a year. There are over 2 million commercial heavy trucks running America. That is a lot of fuel.

The major stops like that, once they move over to winter blend, the entire system will be up to full winter blend in a few hours, half day at most. When seasonal changes occur, I only get fuel at high volume fuel stops for both my commercial and personal needs. Even then, I will still dose the fuel with the Schaeffer fuel additive that I get from my oil supplier. Always pays to be proactive with diesel. I don't worry about getting off road diesel. Any fuel I get is going to be written off on business expense anyway. And I can't risk any dye getting into my road tanks. The fines are pretty steep if caught.

I use off road fuel, but have never done any paper work. Just go to cashier and pre-pay, then fill my fuel cans. Am I doing something wrong, or is my local station doing something wrong? I do not have an on road diesel right now.

I don't know about WV paperwork, but if it's like up here, the big deal is enforcement.

If you are driving an on-road diesel, get stopped in an inspection, and the swab comes out of the tank with dye on it - like Copperhead said, it gets really expensive.

AFAIK, in most areas (well, outside of California anyway) if you are only burning dyed diesel off-road, then you shouldn't get yourself into much trouble.

If in doubt, check your State Transportation website for regs.

It's fairly easy to figure out. Look at what you are paying for diesel compared to the advertised price on the billboard. If they are comparable you are paying taxed price. With my supplier, it was a gimic such as how I was paying for the fuel... If I used a national credit card at the pump I was paying the tax. If I used their company credit card I was charged the tax. Needless to say I got their credit card. Doesn't matter either way, I pay the bill at the end of the month.

He doesn't even know if he's paying road tax yet. Let's not get the cart ahead of the horse.

That is worth clarifying.

Around here, when someone says "off-road fuel", the mean dyed, and not paying Road Tax, but that may vary regionally.

Here, we can get dyed diesel at some truck stops, you don't have to go to an industrial distributor to get it - you learn to be really careful filling up your truck !
