Flying Squirrel

Great pictures.

I have them hear, but the only time we see them is when we are in the hot tub at night and sitting quietly. They will come down the tree next to the hot tub to get the bird feed. We are probably five feet away from them and we can see them fairly easily, but as soon as one of us moves, the take off back up the tree again. I've only seen one land of the tree that flew there. Scared the crap out of me!!!!!

Went out to refill the bird feeder this morning. Found one of these guys chowing down. He didn't see me until I turned the feeder around. Needless to say we were both startled. He sat there at arms length for 5 seconds then jump into a tree. These guys are very rare around here.

We've had flying squirrels around our place in south Alabama as long as I recall, nothing rare, except to see them.
My father had some let go in the area about a decade ago also.

I got a picture of my squirrel and he sure isn't afraid of me too much.

Just last week there was a dead flying squirrel on my paver drive. He probably was not use to a hard landing.

He could have been dropped by an owl or a hawk. I have seen hawks drop things, like a snake that landed on a high line and remained there! Pretty weird to see a snake draped over an electric line.
