Which Older Tractor - A Few Options I've Found

Which is why I said the Massey of the three listed, and then explained why something newer might be worth considering.

That 40 hp cab tractor is pretty small. He better shell out 70k for a new M69. Don't forget to add a hydraulic thumb on the hoe, and a grapple, and a front mount snow blower. Then you will need hydraulics to run the snow blower and grapple. Now, you are going to need a F-350 diesel, and a 20k axel gooseneck to haul it with.

If it were me with your budget and landsize, I might think about going for a Massey 35 with original Massey loader. Lightweight loader with trip (not hydraulic) bucket, which I think, can be converted to hydraulic (check that). You might get away with not having power steering with this combo. Loads of 35's still around and parts are cheap and plentiful. Easy to fix and maintain. But as others have said, you will probably need to spend money once purchased.

It's probably not ideal but with a limited budget your choices aren't many if you want a loader.

Me neither. My Kubota B7100 doesn't have power steering or a loader. It sucks to mow with. It would be even worse with a loader.

While the Massey Ferguson 175 may need some repairs and fix ups without a closer look it is hard to know. I would look at it and see if the transmission, brakes and steering check out. Look it over to determine what it needs to fix it up to make it work. Might want to take someone with you more knowledgeable to help you decide.

That said above the tractor is simple enough that you shouldn't have a lot of ongoing problems. IT ISN'T A NEW TRACTOR but at $4500 that is a fair price if in decent shape. I would not buy a MF 35 as suggested before a 175 because the larger 175 can loaf along and still get more work done. While it isn't pretty a little work and a paint job might make it look good. If you have some mechanical ability this would be an easy fixer upper.

It would be great if the Massey had a straight transmission, without multi-power. They can be a very handy option, but very expensive to fix on the Massey's.

Tractor data seems to show that all 175's had Multi-power. If so then I wouldn' touch it.

There were two other transmissions available, a 6x2 and an 8x2 both gear transmissions without multipower. That is according to tractordata on the transmission page.

Quite right......didn't see that further down the page. However, I still wouldn't touch this one if it has multi-power.
