What gives with dealers on tractor house?

/ What gives with dealers on tractor house? #31
I guess non of us will really know the dealer "game" until we are the dealer. I've bought many things where they show me "their cost" and sure I feel better about it but then I start to do the numbers. If they're really only making 1k per unit they sure have a lot to move in order to pay for salaries, property, benefits, etc......

At the end of the day, get the best deal you can and don't look back. There will always be someone who claims to have paid less.

I think you're making an assumption about my dealer based on your own "dealer-trick" experiences, and certainly I have seen that ruse played by other dealers in a variety of markets (vehicles, appliances, etc). However that isn't the case with this particular dealer.

And why would your dealership be tasked with repo'ing the machines? Is that KTAC's rules? If I finance a tractor thru you, move out of state, and default on my loan to someone else, are you still coming to repo my tractor?

Its not a "dealer trick", is the way new equipment is prices from every single dealer in the nation, period. EVERY single dealer does this, its not shady or a trick, its just simply how the equipment is priced. I'm not attacking your dealer, I'm sure he's very good, but he's not making only $1000 on each machine he sells. We couldnt keep lights on and people employed for only making $1000 on each machine, and I'm sure he's the same. I dont do the "this is my cost" trick, its dishonest.

Showroomshine. Your above post is very honest and right on track. I appreciate your time in this discussion. I have little to no hope that the "expert critics" will give it any credit.

Thank you for your attempt. :)

It would be nice if TruCar came out with a new version TruTractor.

Also, your local Massy/Kioti dealer is making a ton more than $1000 on each sale. Here is how it works, he's shown you his cost but thats not what he's paid, he takes a factory discount further off that amount and then adds back in shop time and assembly.

For example, say my "cost" (called dealer net) on a tractor is $50K. I can show you that cost and mark it up at a "$1000 margin" and make it look like you get a killer deal. What actually happens is the factory has programs and discounts off that dealer net price, so in this case lets make it 10%. So now my cost is now $45K instead of $50K. You've paid me $51K.

Dont ever fall for the "here is my cost" line, its all BS. Perhaps you think what I/we do is dishonest, but the "here is my cost" line is one of the most dishonest schemes in the industry.

Sorry TSO but I'd assume this to be the case too. Doesn't mean you did not get a really good deal though!

Thank you for the credit. Thats the toughest thing about being in sales, and is what will drive me back to custom home building. I dont like feeling like a slimy sales guy, I want to be as honest as possible with everyone. However, some of the way we have to price things and choices we have to make are tough decisions.

I think buyers (and some people in this thread) think they know the system and get a great deal, but then when faced with the truth get upset. I'd love to start a thread highlighting how stuff is ACTUALLY priced, so people can be aware. Maybe it would save some people some money.

No, last time I got him down to $750. Husband and wife run it, 2-3 other employees, probably sells a couple tractors per day, both new and used. Sells lots of implements, also operates a rental/storage facility on site. Perhaps he is rare in his business practices and success.

You need to face facts, I dont care what kind of operation he runs, he's making more than $750-$1000 on each machine. He is telling you that, but when he settles the machine with the manufacturer (when he officially marks it as sold), he either asks the rep for more money, gets a dealer rebate, or uses the factory discounts.

I wouldn't care if someone paid less for a tractor than I did. I wouldn't have made the deal to start with if I felt I was overpaying or not getting a deal I considered "fair".

Ok if you say so ;-)
