A ventless heater burning propane or natural gas puts all the products of combustion into the room air. carbon monoxide

A properly burning non vented gas appliance will produce very little (if any) carbon monoxide when tested with a CO meter.. If the unvented gas appliance produced any, or very much CO,,everyone with a co meter/ detector in their homes that use unvented gas logs, heaters, etc, would be hearing a constant alarm from the CO detector.

I service many of these appliances for my customers & check them with my CO meter each service.. My customers also have CO detectors in their homes. And thy never get CO alarms

You are more likely to be killed in an auto accident, than killed by a properly installed & serviced non vented gas appliance

Before the era of forced air furnaces we had gravity flow furnaces. 100% efficient natural gas heat. Furnace in the basement was unvented and no return air ducts. Heat went up and cold air drawn to the basement to feed the furnace. The furnace was 70k btu output. That type of furnace was used for decades.

i have my house and rent the one next door. both have ventless heaters. never in 20 years has either one had any problems. except for spiders building nest in summer only once in a while. heats whole house. i also have furnace blower motor wired on lowest speed sometimes just to circulate the heat thru the air ducts. just remember that ventless heaters are 99% efficient and your whole house furnace is 95% efficient. not much savings in gas. just a little more electricity from furnace because of blower motor and inducer motor. your furnace should cycle off and on above 0 degrees. its always nice to supplement the area your in at the time to make it extra cozy. also you sometimes want that moisture in the air to "feel" the heat. thats why in the summer your a/c removes moisture from the air so you don't "feel" any heat.

Not to be pickey.. But ventless heaters are actually 99.9% efficient:D;)
Depending on the furnace mod.,, You can get a little better than a 95%

No I don't. It was a large unit. Burners were 36" x36" !0" pipes to each room out of the top. Took up a lot of space. The nice thing about it was when we had an ice storm and were without electricity for four days we could light it manually. That and a gas stove we got buy just fine.

Grandparents had a floor furnace. Unit was installed in the floor and hung into the basement and the grate on top got to hot to walk on barefoot. They used small fans to move the heat around the house. I think it was 1968 or 69 when they replaced it with forced air.

I remember my grandmothers house had unvented gas stoves in every room.

A friend told me the other day he has an unvented gas heater that he really likes.

I have repaired / replaced many floor furnaces. Most of them have a millivolt system ,and are able to operate without any additional power.. Some of them required 110v

I have worked on many old furnaces that were converted from coal to NG.. The vent pips came off that thing ,and looked like a large spider.. The main combustion compartment was large and round. Usually wrapped with asbestos paper ,and tape.. They all had a vent, and a damper in the vent to control the flue gasses

I maintain a lot of old heaters going back to the 1920's... all are vented

Never have come across one that wasn't... some of the real old ones use copper for the vent pipe... sure it will outlive me.

Have some wedgewood stove with gas heaters... they also vent.
