Strange things found in the forest

Camping in the mountains near a creek. Put beer in the water to keep it cool. I found some people where they were not just minutes before. They came out of the creek. The creek was at it starting point coming out of the rocks. I asked them were they came from and they told me out of the creek. More questions and it turned out about 1/4 mile back in the woods, the creek went under ground. They took me up there and I too followed the creek with them and it went under ground. Then the scary part. We held our breath and jumped in and went underwater under ground knowing I could not swim back. Short ride in the water, came to a 10 foot drop off in a cavern. Light was getting in from cracks in the rocks above us. Got out of the water and hiked down the drop off, got back in the water and rode it for a while. Came to a rock overhead in the water and we ducked and popped out where the adventure began.

And was the beer cold by the time you made it through the cave?

Did not see a "The varmit" and the beer was cold.

Alright this a weird one. I have been waiting to post this story until my mother in law sent the picture of the thing they found. We have a piece of land in south eastern Ohio that we are planning to build on once I leave the military. The in-laws own and live on the parcel adjacent to ours. One thing that I find kind of neat, is that our land has some sparse ruins down in this one little valley near a massive catalpa tree. At this point there are only three of these big (1.5ft x 1.5ft) cornerstones left. The 4th one might have been pushed down in a gulley when the previous owner took a bulldozer through there about 10 years ago. I haven't had time to look for it. A search in the old court house records shows this land and the surrounding parcels were farm land in the mid 1800's. Judging by the size and shape of the catalpa, and the big oak, it is clear that at one time they were by themselves without having to compete for sunlight from surrounding trees. Plus the soil is just awesome, it would make sense someone was growing something on those rolling hills. Now you have to understand, this is some serious deep dark Ohio jungle. Even before the leaves are on the trees. It's thick out there, you need some long pants, boots, and also loppers or a good sharp machete to make your way anywhere there isn't already a trail. We have a trail cut down through and around the corner stones and the bricks (which I am guessing were a fireplace).

So anyway, last spring on a warm day before everything leafed out, my mother in law, and my 7 year old niece went for a walk down in the woods along the trail around the old homestead. My nieces and nephews are really interested in the history of the land, and their imaginations kind of run wild thinking about what it must have been like for people living there over a hundred years ago. So once they're down in the woods, my niece says to my mother in law "I wonder if a little girl lived here? If she did, I think it would be neat to find her doll" A few minutes later, she sees this thing sitting right on top of the ground right off to the side of the trail! Might not seem like a big deal, but we have spent a lot of time down there looking around before, it's just weird we never noticed this thing. But as soon as my niece asks....she finds it. Please excuse the picture of the picture, MIL is not real technically savvy and this was the only way she could send me a picture of the picture she took.... In any case, we won't be putting our house on that site haha.

Found a narrow gauge railroad long abandoned running through the mountains of Montana. I'd like to go back with a hack saw & get a few feet of the track to use as an anvil in my shop and to have some as a novelty. Pretty neat looking miniature track.

Found a Saint Bernard dog wandering in the mountains about 25 miles from the nearest occupied structure. I wasn't able to catch him to give him a ride to town.

Found a woman who had attempted suicide by drinking Drano. She was still alive when I got her to town and seemed to think that suicide was a permanent solution to a temporary problem. She thanked me for the help.

Found a bear. Shot the bear. Found the partially eaten remains of the female doper who had OD'ed and wandered off into the woods & died.

I took the dogs for a walk down my bush a while back. I have a metal detector so I was swinging that.
I got some signals.
Turns out somebody many years ago must have dropped a packet of .303 bullets. Then a fire must have gone through. About 20 exploded shells in all. Glad I wasn't there fighting the fire... lol.

Here is another find after I had cleaned it up. It is in surprising condition considering it was about 18 inches down. About 200 meters from the other spot.
It is an 1800s Swedish bayonet (from memory) How it got there we will never know. I have also found Australian army clothing badges and a tiny stove for boiling water. I even picked up a stirling silver necklace chain as well.

I can't nobody else has stumbled upon a couple "consummating" their love for the outdoors. I was about 13 and it definitely left a memory!

Wait. Regular aliens or illegal aliens?
I keep thinking about the commercial where people are talking about aliens and a guy comes on and says, "I had *** with an illegal alien".

My to sons and I took a 20 min boat ride in voyagers national park out to a 4 mile trail in to a secluded chain of lakes. Toward the end of the day of fishing we see something that we think is a moose swimming across one of the lakes. So we start paddling towards it to get a better look. Turns out it was a near naked French women having a swim. I guess it wasn't as secluded as we all thought. Definitely better than a moose sighting though. To this day my boys still say it was the best day of fishing they ever had despite not catching much and the long hike.

In my case a neighbor called me to say a moose was crossing the lake.
Well that moose came out on my shoreline and trotted thru my flower beds and departed into the forest.
Naturally the camera was not at hand.

My father in law is an interesting guy. He grew up on the coast of NC having a very Tom Sawyer lifestyle growing up with plenty of swimming, boating, fishing, and hunting. He lived near an old fort on the coast that was the scene of a major battle during the US Civil War. The fort is now owned mostly by the state but back in the day he knew the owners of the land and they gave him permission to dig for artifacts....

He found belt buckles, rusted swords, rusted firearms, mini balls, and larger cannon rounds. Some quite huge. He also found the body of a Union soldier who had been literally blow high into the sky. The bones were found heaped up just as the man fell to earth and then was buried under the sand. He knows the man's name because it was etched on the back of the belt buckle....

In other places, he found old trenches from fighting and in the trenches he would find ball ammo. Some of the balls might have been in a pouch that was dropped and rotted away because there was a mass of them. Others seemed to have been dropped one at a time while the soldier was firing but the soldier was shaking and dropping a bullet from time to time as he reloaded.

Interesting man my father in law. He has had some experiences.:D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Yes, but they were not in a forest.:laughing::laughing:

One couple was on school property during the summer and the other was along the ICW(Inter Coastal Waterway) and did not think they could be seen from water....:confused3::shocked::eek::laughing::laughing::laughing:
