Strange things found in the forest

Box turtles, Quite common is Southern IN. We also have snappers and large soft shell turtles that I can't manage to keep off my catfish lines!

I've never seen a turtle on my property and have been living in the area for 50 years.

My cousin came for a visit with her boys and they went exploring... in 5 minutes her 7 year old son found a perfect turtle shell about the size of a shoe box... just the shell.

It was dusty and a little dusting off and it looked great... never seen a kid so happy... he took it all the way back to Austria and brought it to school for show and tell...

i found this when i was a kid when hunting along a creek. the mouth piece was all that was above ground and it was completely full of mud inside.

dad fixed it up, bought another similar to it and they talk.

Cool phone find.

have a phone like that on my kitchen wall. was my grandfathers. Once upon a time was hardwired over the hill to his dad's house so they could talk. My grandparents never had any other phone.

Nice find on the phone. Seems I remember some years ago that people would use the old crank type phone to shock fish up or some such? Stick wires in the water and paralyze them?

When I was a kid, army surplus hand crank generators were commonly available. As I recall, they delivered about 90 volts, enough to make the fish come up. Not that I'd ever do such a thing.......

I can recall those in every house on the party line.

It's exactly like the one I grew up with. Still remember our phone number...55F23, meaning 55 (two longs) on line F23 (F for farm, I think). I still remember my Dad complaining about getting phone calls and other folks on the party line "taking the receiver down", meaning of course, taking the ear piece off the hook to listen to his conversations. Every time someone "took the receiver down", it sucked power until you could just barely hear the person on the other end of the line, or not at all.
