That's what the label says. Just about the same as the 'name' brands.

OK, just completed a highly scientific experiment. As mentioned above, the Smuckers ingredients are listed only as "peanuts, contains 1% or less of salt". The Great Value ingredients are listed as "roasted peanuts, sugar, contains 2% or less of molasses, hydrogenated vegetable oils (rapeseed, cottonseed, soybean oil), salt", but also has "ALLERGY WARNING: CONTAINS PEANUTS, MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF MILK, EGGS, ANCHOVIES, WHEAT AND SOY". The only thing that surprises me is "anchovies"???? Both jars of peanut butter were the "creamy" type.

But to continue . . . when my wife saw me opening 2 jars of peanut butter, and putting the dough hook in the mixer, she asked, "Are you fixin' to make a mess?" and I replied, "Quite possibly". As it turned out, no mess at all.

First I mixed the Smuckers pure peanut better that had oil on top when I started. Even when I turned it up to the 7th speed, no mess. When it was thoroughly mixed, I washed the dough hook, then did the same mixing to the Great Value peanut butter. Then came the taste tests; my wife and her sister participated.

And the conclusions; the pure peanut butter was slightly thinner in texture than the other, and all 3 testers agreed that the pure peanut butter tasted better. So I reckon we'll only buy the pure peanut butter in the future and mix it when needed.

And we thank sixdogs for starting this thread with good information.

Bird, some of the bigger HEB stores have an aisle dedicated to trail mix types of fodder. Some have peanut butter grinders. The store in College Station has 3. Almond butter, Peanut Butter, and Honey Roasted PB. My wifey loves the honey roasted. It doesn't seem to settle much, but it also doesn't stay on our shelf for more than 2 weeks before it is gone. :)

Kyle, H.E.B. was my mother's favorite grocery store, partly because when they lived in Port Aransas, the H.E.B. in Aransas Pass was the biggest grocery store around, and partly because of the charitable works the owners did. But we don't have one around here. The Denton Record-Chronicle had a story this past week about a sign on some land on University Drive saying it's a future site of an H.E.B. Well, an H.E.B. spokesperson admits they own the land, but they denies having any plans to put a store there.

Of course that land is very close to an Albertson's, Walmart, and Sam's Club, with a WinCo store about to be built.

OK - 65 posts grown men debating the pros and cons of various types of peanut butter. Cmon we should be talking about more important things, like, why those pallets are still standing in the famers field.
See now you know why we all come here.

I don't figure there are too many things more important than what I eat.

At first I feared this might be one of us that cracked but it's merely a New York City "artist" that's making 2,340 PB& J sandwiches for some reason. I can't tell but it could be real peanut butter. You know, just peanuts and salt. She probably got ginned up reading this thread and is taking things to their logical conclusion. She's an "artist" so I suppose the Sistine Chapel ceiling might be next. Let's hope she didn't rip off our dough hook and drill idea. :D

X out of the picture to read the story.

A few years ago my allergy nurse recommended natural peanut butter to me, and I've been enjoying it ever since. A year or two after that an older friend was giving away most of his tools has he felt he had gotten to unfit to use them, and he passed a pneumatic paint shaker along to me. Shortly after that I came home from the grocery store with a fresh jar of peanut butter and was about to start the somewhat arduous task of stirring in the oil when a revelation struck me: Why not use the paint shaker? So out into the garage I went, fired up the compressor, loaded the jar into the shaker, and fifteen minutes later, had the most perfectly mixed jar of all natural peanut butter ever.

A year or so later I was using the shaker as God intended, and somehow the can came loose. Man what a mess. I'd hate to see that happen to a jar of peanut butter...
