Trying to decide which way to go for a backhoe.
Buying a 3 pt mounted one for my JD 4720
Or a skid steer mount for a Bobcat T650 I will be buying in the next week.

Main question is which will mount/install faster and any pros or cons to either.

The JD would be the 485 and the Bobcat would probably be the 9BH

Thanks

Why the skid steer backhoe? Are you planning on mounting it on the FEL? 3 point hitch backhoes suck. A backhoe with a subframe is the best.

Your tractor is supposed to use a JD 485 backhoe. The Bobcat backhoe is significantly stronger than the JD 485. This is a great recipe for disaster. The skid steer made to handle that backhoe weighs 9,500 pounds. Your tractor weighs 3800 pounds plus the loader. A skid steer backhoe might work, but not that one.

The OP question was the Bobcat Track T650 with the Bobcat BH, or buying the JD485 for the 4720..

In my opinion the Bobcat is a better choice at 9000Lbs for a BH and a higher Hyd flow rate and will have higher capacity digging, and probably easier on/off.

With the Bobcat BH can you maneuver the track/machine from the BH seat as you are digging? - if not this would be a big disadvantage to have to dismount the BH seat to move as you dig..

I would not put a 3PT BH but would do a sub frame BH on the JD4720 tractor - with a 4PT pin/cradle mounting setup this would be similar to install as the Bobcat also - probably not as easy as the Bobcat.

Then the transport - if you need one machine to do multiple tasks at a job site, the bobcat may give you more flexible options to have a grapple, a BH, a bucket, and broom etc. on a trailer to use as needed.

The way I understood his post he was wanting to put the bobcat backhoe attachment on his tractor.

Thanks for the replies.
To clarify, I have a JD4750 as option A for a backhoe
Option B is a Bobcat T650

I'd probably go with the Bobcat as its a stronger backhoe.

How close to the $$ of a used mini-ex would the BC hoe be?

The hoe on the deere is a toy compared to the hoe on the Bobcat...

How tough are the jobs you have planned? Are they tough jobs?
