What is a tire, wheel, rim?

Is there an industry standard single word name for "tire with wheel"?

Drivers have a spare "tire" in their trunk not a spare "tire with wheel", so the terminology is inconsistent.
(I'm nursing a cold and sore throat so I cannot do more useful things so I am asking those in the know about this issue that has made me curious ever since I built my trailer. You'll all probably glad when I'm well:D.)
They just need to clarify things because customers want to know exactly what they're getting. But in the auto industry, the word "rim" isn't used. It's "wheel".

A wheel isn't a rim, and a rim isn't a wheel, and while many people use the terms interchangeably, they are wrong. The rim is only the outer edge/flange on the wheel that keeps the tire bead in place. Just because thugs call wheels "rims" doesn't mean we should follow their lead.

And then I throw a spanner into your NA works and spell it tyre.

:)

Spanner my tail, that there is a "monkey wrench"

The first pic is a wheel, that is, an assembly of the two. It can not be a wheel if it is just a rim or just a tyre.
2nd pic is a tyre
3rd pic is a wheel rim, or rim for short. A lot of folk call them 'centers'.

People don't carry spare tyres in their trunks. They carry spare wheels. A tyre is no good without a rim and a rim without a tyre doesn't give you much traction......
As a mechanic all my life I can assure you that my answer is correct.

AND, tire can be spelled both ways but tyre is the correct way. Tire relates to weary as in having a tiring day. A tyre is what I fit on my rims to make a wheel assembly so I can do burnouts.....

Different countries seem to develop terms different to others and over the years it becomes an adopted part of the language and is accepted without argument. We just have to be tolerant of others adopted lingo in many cases.

Any type of adjustable wrench is a shifter. A non-adjustable wrench is a spanner.

I'm not correcting anyone... just letting you know alternative tool definitions.

Here we go again...
Crescent is a Brand Name and a very good one......
To me it is a shifting wrench.
To me a Monkey wrench is a pipe wrench like a plumber would use. It tightens its' grip as you pull on it. A shifter is designed to slip so that you skin your knuckles.

And what about water pump pliers? Channel lock pliers.
Johnson bar/breaker bar/strong arm and the list goes on and on and the proper NORTH AMERICAN spelling for a tire is tire
