OK back to the "original thread" where I got the answer AFTER sorta "finishing" my project.

Most generators have a label affixed to them that say "Neutral bonded to frame" or "Neutral not bonded to frame." For portable generators it is usually the former while for permanent backups like Generac sells the neutral is not bonded. You need to be certain you have not compromised this by taping off the grey.
Do you see any wire connected to the bare frame of the generator usually with a proper lug and screw into the frame.
If you are not familiar with the bonded vs unbonded or floating this link may help.
GenTran Accessory for Neutral Bonded Generators

What does yours say?

This link is GOOD thanks Dave! I read it but didn't pick out the right details.

Looks like most modern generators are configured to play nicely with GFCI outlets when powering a household. It looks like I need to neutral-bond the generator to get the 115 to work and be grounded too. In which it will no longer operate a GFCI outlet (or be OSHA approved). Basically same as my old generator. Pretty sure the way to go is the dongle method where the 3-holer is grounded to the frame.

Will do this in the other thread titled "Need 220vAC electrical help - change 4 prong outlet to 3-prong."" Will be a couple weeks at least til I can get to it.

I would not carry more that 6500W continuous on that "10,000" watt generator.

My Duromax XP10000E is still running fine, always starts easy, welds 3/8" steel without a bog. Wish I paid $649 for it instead of $999 but so far I think its going to be worth at least $999.

Did anyone hook their Duromax to a big LP tank or does everyone just use smaller bottles?

I order for me to hook it up to my big tank I would have to tap in before the HP regulator on the tank. It is 100' away from where I want the generator sitting. Does it make sense to tap in there and run extension cords or to run a HP gas line to where I want the generator sitting. Or, take the regulator off the generator and hook to a low pressure line near where the generator will be sitting?

I had the generator hooked to a small tank since I had it and one time I left the gas valve on for a month. When I came to start it it would not start and I tried for about 10 cycles. I then shut the gas off and disconnected it and rehooked it up, and it popped right off. Note to self, shut the gas off when done with it for the day.

Wondering how these units are holding up for everyone? I really like the idea of propane (right now) as an alternative fuel.

Mine has never missed a beat. It's been a year or so. I use it for welding only or other shop tools. Mine is gas-only though(XP10000E).
