escavadar chains and steering brakes are your best friend doing that kind of work in snow. I would not blame the chains for taking out the pinion. It is common practice and safeer to chain up a tractor to get some traction. Your diff-lock is another very important asset but be careful when you engage it. Do not engage it while a wheel is spinning or while you are turning !! Try to think ahead and engage it before you get to the tough spot.

10-4 im believing the heavier the hitch that better the traction at least on snow .most likely when ill use the winch the most my wood is cleaner that way ,and is easier on saw chains when i do work it up.

This is not mine it is my neighbors. He has an efficient system. He raises a few beef critters and boils a little maple syrup. When he is done haying for the season he goes around his fence lines and sugar bush with his hay wagon and saw. He cleans up the fence line and prunes his maples and ends up with a hay wagon full of wood. Then he builds a temporary roof over the wagon load of wood and parks it on top of the hill in the sun and wind. Here it is.



In the spring when he starts to boil sap he takes the wagon down to the sugar house and uses the wood right from the wagon to fire the arch. When summer hay season comes he has an empty wagon again.

I think that is pretty good.

That's a really great idea.
Something like that would let me cut & split, away from the house, then move the mobile woodshed close to our bulkhead door, once the ground is well frozen. Keeps the processing mess out in the field, where I'm doing it now, and keeps the tractor off the lawn, when I'm home and need to reload the racks in the basement, which always seems to be in the middle of a thaw. A back yard with no bark peelings or tire ruts.

Picked up some wood from about 1/4 mile down the road. Enjoying the pleasant winter here in Michigan. Very glad I didn't buy a smaller tractor.

I'm going to have to rip these big pieces down before I can split them.
I asked the wife If I could buy an MS880 with 60" bar she denied my request.
