You are correct, this issue has been an on going problem and posted on before, and to be honest I don't like green paint......I like Red or even Orange! Like I stated in low range I don't have the issue...reverse is a snails pace but the tractor goes with no issues. I use the tractor in Low 99% of the time.....and Yes I used the tractor during the months I had it because I wasn't willing to be without it during nice weather. This wasn't the only issue I had with the first dealer, there were several other problems and the factory service rep (Paul Erwin) put me in contact with a dealer that was closer to me....and hopefully could fix the issues (Yes the warranty has to be registered to a specific dealer)...and maybe there isn't anything wrong and this machine.....maybe it just doesn't meet my expectations, I hope that's not the case. Let me figure out how to post a video on here and hopefully you will see what I'm taking about......and I'm NOT a TROll, fact is this thing has had some kind of issue since day one and the first dealer was an idiot, delivered with a leak, 2 times in shop still cant fix leak...because it wasn't leaking where they thought, replaced a relief valve and a pto seal when its didn't need it, they didn't even had the testing tools to check hydro pressure (that was per Paul Erwin) kept tractor for over a month for warranty repairs that didn't fix the issue. I've been dealing with this since April, and have been without the tractor for over 2 month due to warranty repair issues...I think anyone would be frustrated with the service I've received.

Stl Matt

Well said, looking forward to a video.

I am currently looking at a GC1720, so I am following this thread closely.
You bring up an issue that I will have to ask my dealer about, warranty registration. That just seems odd, but I don't own a tractor and never bought a new car, so warranty issues have never been a concern of mine till now.

Keep us posted!

Well I'm glad you are not a Troll!

I think the easiest way to figure out if your tractor has a speed/power issue would be to run another 1720 side by side at the dealership to compare.

Good luck. I'm glad I don't have your issues...

We definitely need a vid to address: when you say you run out of power, does that mean the RPM's dip and it tries to stall? It goes into relief? Also, someone mentioned checking the brakes, that's a very valid point. Have they checked your system pressure? Is the fluid at the proper level? Is it the proper fluid?

Reverse and forward should pretty much be the same speed.

I have a GC2400 that the dealer tells me there is nothing wrong with but after a few hr's the reverse gets down right lame. I have a hard time backing up a small hill in high and have to shift into low to back up to catch a corner when mowing. It sounds like the same problem as Stlmat has but not as bad. The engine does not bog it just sits there and won't go backward. Low range is slugish compaired to what it was but caused me problems on the big snow we just had trying to back out of drifts. Ed

Yes sounds like the same issue....I too noticed mine loses some power once its HOT, but that is understandable...Mine Never bogs down, NEVER.....sounds and feels like its in Bypass, I have requested the pressure be tested and was told it checked fine. (I did just order a pressure gauge and will test myself once it comes in) Low range hasn't let me down Yet, but seems underpowered especially in Rev........and in HIGH range don't even think about trying to back up an incline because it isn't happening. I will do my best to video it this weekend and post.

Thanks: Stl Matt

I hope you all find out what it is and how to fix it. I have hilly property and so far the GC1720 is top of my list to purchase.

I have a GC1705 and MMM which I use on hilly property in high range with no problems. Seldom need low range when cutting grass.

Matt... How is the backhoe operated on your tractor? Is it thru rear remotes?

I just had a thought, check to make sure that your remote levers aren't stuck in a position causing a draw on the hydraulic system.

Not for nutting but i call BS on you buddy. Dont tell us you cant figure out how to post a dam video you have been talking about this for months now. It takes 30 mintues of readig to figure out a video upload. Ill give u a easy way. Youtube.com make a free account, take your cell phone or whatever video device your using a record something. Send it to your youtube account, post youtube link on forum. Or better yet video it yourself and when your ready pm a administrator, send the video to them and they will do it for you.

I feel every bit of your frustrations. I had several leaks on mine when i first got it, guess what tho i posted pictures and videos and everyone here helped a lot real quick.

If you got a lemon tractor then ask for a New one. But you need evidence and that starts with pictures and videos, even a compariosn next to another machine doing the same thing.

Just do us all a favor stop posting until you get your video up.

Dont mean to be rude but you have complained alot and have nothing to show proof. Unless i missed previous threads and videos/pictures where posted and i will owe you apology.

If i was you id be scanning all the dealer service papers and posting them on here calling them out and such horrible work!

Your hydro pedal is your transmission gear shift.
When you press the pedal all the way down, YOU ARE IN HIGH GEAR. Low power in other words.

As you go up an incline, ease off the pedal to maintain power.

these tractors have 2 separate gear ranges, all you have to do is try shifting on the fly to hear the sound of grinding gears.

If the tractor is not responding to the hydrostat pedal, and the engine does not indicate a load (bog down) then there must be an issue somewhere.

I have had leaks on the quick couplers to the fel that were never fully repaired after 6 trips to 2 different dealers, and it did leak like a sieve from brand new, but it has been nearly fixed and given how hard I have learned to work the machine, I can live with it.

far as the tractor not being capable in high range, that's just nonsense.

I have a backblade on mine and I can move snow, forward or reverse, up or down a decent grade on my driveway without any problems.

just guessing, but I think the gearing spread has to do with moving the machine from one place to another. I do bucket work in low, shift out of 4wd and into high range to travel, back into low and 4wd for the next bucket and so on. some people may think this is time consuming but I bet the whole process in and out takes less than 2 seconds. you just have to slack up the drivetrain, then shift. I pull it out of 4wd first, then into high range and vice versa.

If you have to drive the tractor any distance at all, you soon realize how much of a nightmare it would be without that high range. the cruise control is nice too.;)
