Is that a typo? 255/85/16 isn't a common truck tire size.

Larger tires in The same ply rating, the larger tires are gonna have a higher load capacity.

I like mastercraft coursers. Pick the courser model that has tread you like. But for an American tire, they are hard to beat price wise.

I have the hxt's on my truck. Good in snow. For me, milage ain't much concern cause any time my truck is moving, its either hauling, towing, or plowing. Nothing lasts over 30k. But that's still about 6 years worth.

I went the other direction. I went from 235/80 up to 265/70. Better flotation off road.

Lots of trucks on Goodyear Duratracs here. Running a set of 285/75/16s on my F250. So far I am impressed, but don't have many miles on them yet.

Your chosen tire size is very odd; very few tires made in that size so you don't have much of a choice.
My experience with Michelin E range tires has been very good.
I also really liked the Nexen (South Korea) E rated tires that came on my Ram dually.

In Georgia you aren't running in snow, usually..., so for grip and tire wear, I wouldn't go smaller. You also need to be careful with the max rated
load on a narrow set of tires; might not be rated high enough for your loads.

I'm guessing you folks know your tires. I have worn out my BFG 285/75/16 ATs and am looking at Cooper ST Max 255/85/16, because they are 1" narrower and a tad taller. I drive about 60/40 paved and dirt roads and pull a 6K trailer routinely. Opinions? Thanks

I sell tires and have had several HD2500 GM trucks. I won't recommend tires because there are so many opinions but I will say that any taller diameter tire will most likely rub on the front inner fenders right by the mudflap area in a tight turn. This is true on 2007 and up GMs, this issue can be somewhat alleviated by cranking up the torsion bars.

I've been there. The dealer put on Chevy mudflaps on my new 2007 GMC 3/4 tone 4x4 because they couldn't find the GMC ones on their storage parts rack. They rubbed when backing up with a cramped steering wheel either direction. They had to take off the Chevy and put on the GMC mudflaps.

Haven't been keeping up with TBN for a few days, thanks for the comments. No, tire size not a typo and yes it is an odd size. It is too bad more companies don't provide it. You get a 33" tire that will fit well on a 6" rim. I have a 2006 2500HD and have lifted the front about 1" with the T-bars and slightly trimmed the bumper, doesn't rub with 285/75/16 so no worries with these. These tires are E rated with 3-ply sidewalls so no load concerns. I am a big BF Goodrich AT/KO fan, I have been running them on a variety of vehicles for at least 20-years but they only offer this size in their MTs which is a tad to aggressive for all the highway driving I do. Looking for something thinner but don't want to loose the diameter.

Are you saying you got the 285/75's? Or are you still questioning it?

I'd go for 285/75's at about the same height but ~1" wider if you can clear, or I'd give up the 1" height and get the 265/75's that are about the same width. Just for sake of convenience and tire selection. I dont like odd sizes that are hard to get.

And who uses 6" rims anymore? I thought most trucks were at least 7" rims

My 285/75/16 are almost worn out, they shouldn't be at 40K as I have gotten well over 50K on the same tire. I am blaming the excessive wear on the fact the tires are to wide for the stock OEM rims. Even with the 33" tires there is allot of wheel well showing, my least favorite thing about this truck. Vanity like most things is ok in moderation. I want to keep the stock rims as they weigh only about 20Lbs each, have not found an after market even comes close to that.
