Silverado 2500HD Tires

Well, the stock Michelin LTX AT2's that came on my 2015 2500HD have got to go. I dearly love Michelin on my commercial stuff, but they are nothing short of lousy for the situational issues my 2500 deals with. A total disappointment for anything other that paved roads. Horrible for around the farm off road stuff like wet, hilly pasture ground or crop land. A real disappointment on gravel roads that one day have serious drifts to plow thru and a few days later are a mud bog. The wife is on the border of inventing new swear words about these tires, and I am right behind her. I have been looking at several brands and tread designs. I don't want some Mud Dog 800's or similar goofy tire that throws rooster tails 50 feet into the air and coat the entire pickup in a layer of mud every time I go down the muddy gravel road. I'll leave that kind of thing to my step daughter and her husband to deal with on their pickups. Sticking with same tire size for mine. Just need a little beefier tread for all situations without going to a pure mud tire. Now just looking at who can give me the best deal.

My preference is with the BFG AT KO2 tires right now, but that could change.

Copperhead, the tires you are considering are much more aggressive than the Michelins you have. Maybe you didn't have the right Michelin tire?
E range? I've run that particular tire before and it did fine on the road and in some snow. But for sure not
on slick hilly farm fields. I'm not a fan of Goodyears but I believe they make a very heavy duty kevlar reinforced tire.
The holy grail for sure is a nice open tread pattern that won't go instantly slick in mud but that also doesn't howl going down the road, and
be actually usable for at least 50K miles.

I've got the BFG AT KO2s on my f250. Mine are 235/85/16 pizza cutters. They are very good in snow. My truck is 2wd with an open differential, so I get stuck pretty much as soon as I drive off the road, but for snow and ice on road I'm very pleased with them. Also, they've held up very well. I must have well over 10k miles on them and I've lost very little tread depth. I also don't do lots of towing, and most of the time my truck is nowhere close to a full load on the axles or tires (I have a low curb weight configuration), so I suppose it's normal that they are wearing slowly. That said, I have put a full load in the bed on several occasions, and they handled very nicely.

Haven't been keeping up with TBN for a few days, thanks for the comments. No, tire size not a typo and yes it is an odd size. It is too bad more companies don't provide it. You get a 33" tire that will fit well on a 6" rim. I have a 2006 2500HD and have lifted the front about 1" with the T-bars and slightly trimmed the bumper, doesn't rub with 285/75/16 so no worries with these. These tires are E rated with 3-ply sidewalls so no load concerns. I am a big BF Goodrich AT/KO fan, I have been running them on a variety of vehicles for at least 20-years but they only offer this size in their MTs which is a tad to aggressive for all the highway driving I do. Looking for something thinner but don't want to loose the diameter.

I can't help you with the odd tire size. However, if you are not absolutely set on the 255/85/16 size take a look at Hankook's Dynapro ATM's. I have had an E rated set on my 1500 for roughly the last 25,000 miles and have been pretty happy with them running around in NW GA. They have been darn solid for towing, well mannered and pretty quiet for daily commuting do well on the gravel roads I've taken my truck on.

They were the Michelins that came with the new pickup that the Ft. Wayne GM plant put on. I would agree, not the right tire for anything but pavement, Michelin or not. Yes they are E range. LT 265/70R18 stock tires. Either way, will leave the Michelin brand for my semi trucks and not my pickup. There is nothing "all terrain" about their AT tire. I have renamed it the Michelin No Terrain tire. And while off road on farm ground an pasture can test any tire, pretty sad when they can't handle the gravel roads well unless they are nice and dry. My only problem with Goodyear is that there is some long time ago history between Goodyear and me, so I have had nothing to do with Goodyears for a couple of decades. Probably missing out on a good tire in the batch now, but it is what it is. Not a fan either.

Around here narrower snow tires are a common practice as they wont float and 'cut' thru to the pavement.

A snow contractor recently got ticketed due to the smaller tires on his sanding truck as a result. To note that those sanding rigs simply drive at very low speeds as well.( I'm talking of 3/4 PU's, not highway sanders.)
Gotta watch the load ratings.

I'm currently running the Goodyear Duratrac on my 06 2500hd. Really like the tire. They don't sing nearly as loud as the Forestone Destination M/T that my previous employer ran. I personally can't get any life out of Firestone. Although his company trucks could. Currently about 5k miles on the Goodyears.
The tires that I had previously on my truck were the MasterCraft Courser C/T. I had good luck with them. Put about 42k miles on them before developing a knot in the tread. Which I do a lot of pulling on gravel roads. Gravel and weight are hard on tires. They were good in snow and mud. Here if you get 35-45k out of an aggressive tire it's been a good tire. MasterCraft did a redesign of their M/T about a year ago I think. And I have been hearing good things about that tire. Goodyear dealer only dealer around that has stock. Everybody else has to order. Main reason I am running Goodyears now.

Well, I may have to put aside my long time aversion to Goodyear and take another look at them. Almost makes me cringe to think about it, but times do change and maybe something they have is worth looking at and I need to shake off my bias.

I did. Thanks. I updated the filter to show my stock tire size and the BFG K02 came out on top. Have to kind of be cautious in the ratings thing, as some of the tires listed even in my stock size are P rated tires and not LT's. Like the Firestone Destination AT on the this list.
