Been using LED's for a little over a month in six enclosed fixtures with know apparent heat problems . Warn to touch, but with incandescent I would burn my fingers in glass fixture. So far, so good .

I just bought some cheap ($5 for 2) LED lights at Wallyworld to try them. They are 2700k, 800 lumens, 8.5 watt-60W equiv. I don't care for the 2700K too much but the 4000K I have are just too bright for my computer area especially early in the morning.
When I took out the 17W 1750Lumen 4000K bulb, the base was so hot it burned my fingers and I couldn't hold it at all. None of my other LED bulbs get that hot. They are all mounted in flush can fixtures. I am wondering why this one gets so darned hot. Even being out of the socket for 5 minutes it is still too hot to touch.

That one probably came from the same Chinese company that builds the exploding hoverboards!

Amazon and fleabay (and even Lowes) have ton's of LED strip lights which look like they should be a good replacement for the time you want a long strip of lights. But prices have been dropping drastically so I've put off buying. This thread bugged me to buy a strip for a bathroom I'm redoing. led lights, a 16' strip for $7. I think they were like $30 a year ago.

I am assuming you meant a 16 inch strip?
