So how do you sell your guns now?

in MA we're only allowed to sell 4 guns per year face to face. More than 4 must go thru a dealer at $25-$35 per transaction. Many of us have many more than 4, so that would take a long time or get expensive.

That's not such a bad idea, it takes all the liability away from you.

Most of my gun purchases are usually from friends or family. For friends of friends (word of mouth thing).

No registration or going through gun dealer stuff required.

How does MA know how many guns you sell face to face? To friends, or family, or coworkers?

They don't (and never will). The facts are that those guns never hurt anybody. But it does show the plan to register every gun so "they" can track them. That's been on "the list" for a long time. "The list" must not be denied (guns, healthcare, whatever)! As for the cost, even if you buy from a FFL holder, the background check is not free. MA has apparently set an arbitrary limit on the number of sales before you are considered a dealer.

MA law says you must fill out a transfer form and send it to the state if you do a face to face transfer NOT thru a dealer. The dealer does this if you do it thru them but the number of transfers thru a dealer is not limited to 4. I'm sure there are many people who don't do this or just don't know about the law. That's one reason the .gov is trying to do away with FTF transfers and make all go thru a dealer.

There are guns that are legally able to be owned or transferred in a FTF scenario that are not on a 'list' of approved firearms. Dealers can only sell or transfer firearms that are on the 'list', if the firearm was made after 1998. FTF transfers of these firearms are ok. If the law is changed so there are no more FTF transfers, then these currently grandfathered firearms cannot be transferred thru a dealer and end up in a limbo status where the owner cannot transfer either FTF OR thru a dealer. This leaves a big problem as no one can legally get rid of them...except to surrender them to the police.

Gov action at it's best.

Gun control. It's not about guns, it's about control.

Armslist is great for buying guns.

Why would you sell a gun?

I buy to keep and would have to make a very steep profit to even consider selling.

Sometimes I want something new and will sell one that's been a safe queen, or after you bought it, it just didn't fit. If I sell one (that's not very often...can't recall the last time), it's to finance another gun.
The last one, now that I think of it, was a Kahr MK9. Nice pistol which I wanted to use as a carry gun (pocket carry) but it was just way too heavy for pocket carry. And, if I'm going to carry a gun on my hip, it's going to have more round capacity the the Kahr had. I sold it and bought a Ruger LCP (which is a great little pocket pistol)

Same here, When one has been in the back of the safe for years, I consider selling. I haven't sold a lot of guns, but I have sold a few. When a man comes to your house with $1500 cash, to buy a firearm you paid $700 for and you have known him for years, you consider taking the $800 profit and going with it. Sometimes you want something else, and selling a gun to get it is a good way to finance it.

I have only sold one gun, LCP 380. Sent it back, factory told me 4 jams in 400 was acceptable. Jammed again with Hornady and I got rid of it. I sure liked the size. Bought a J frame.

Talk your wife into having a garage sale and sell them then. I bought 2 pistols at garage sales. Just make sure the buyer has a permit to purchase a firearm .
Some states you can sell handguns like a toaster at garage sale. No government intervention or paperwork.
