Looking at a 2016 Ford 150 with the 3.6 eco boost motor. Super crew Lariat. Just wondering if this would be enough truck to pull around my Kubota L3800 with FEL. I'm also shopping a 18ft equipment with 2 5k lb axles. Just want to make sure this is a good setup before I pull the trigger and make the purchase. The truck says it will pull 12k and I know the tractor and trailer will be no where close to that but don't want to be undersized. ANy advice is appreciated. BTW I won't be towing far. Less than 10-15 miles 6 times a year.

It would be cheaper to buy another tractor and leave it there.

You are right it would be but it's time for a new truck. my 2006 F150 is getting sleepy.

Check out this thread. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...zer-weight-distribution-hitch-worthwhile.html

I only haul a few times a month and it's 45 miles each way on the interstate, but no problems so far. This Mahindra 2538 tractor is probably similar in size, and your truck should have more payload than the Ram. I think the Eco Boost has a nice torque curve and could perform like my Hemi. I just installed some helper bags for insurance, but you truck likely won't squat as much with its leaf springs. Make sure and get a trailer brake controller installed to work with your trailer brakes. You will need some type of WDH for that load on a half ton. Overall you'll need to not be in a hurry and leave plenty of room to stop or slow down as would be the case with any truck and a trailer. If you do a LOT of hauling then go with a 3/4 ton in my opinion.

The shot below is the full load that my Ram 1500 pulls just fine. The "Equalizer" brand WDH hitch makes it incredibly stable at Interstate speeds even when rough, and while dealing with traffic when goof balls are zooming in and out around you. This was an extreme tongue weight test and it was fine, but I prefer the balance of moving the tractor back a few feet to let loader/grapple lay flat. Then I just wrap a flag around the tail wheel of cutter. (It's a 20 ft, 10,000# rated trailer, and the loaded out weight of trailer, tractor, and all implements is just north of 8,000 pounds so I am pushing truck capacity.)

Hope this gives some insight that might be helpful. Stay safe and good luck!

I pull my ct235 around on a 18', 7K car trailer with my Ram. Absolutely no issue.

Make sure you buy a trailer with allot of tie down points. Cheaper trailers usually are limited in this aspect.

You're going to have an hard time finding that 3.6 ecoboost since they are currently only made in 3.5L but if you do get the 3.5 you won't have any problems. That engine is capable of probably double the weight you want to tow . The truck Springs are the main consideration but if it's rated at 12,000 then you'll have nothing to worry about.

I have an ecoboost f150 and an ecoboost T350 transit van. Best engine I've ever driven next to my v10 twin turbo diesel Touareg.

Ford has my business for many years to come.

Just plan on 8-10 miles per gallon from what others report!

I was going to buy a 2016 ford F-150 super crew cab but I am NOT sold on the 3.5 ecoboost motor. If it were me purchase the ford and go with the tried and true 5.0 engine & 3.73 gears.Visit the ford F150 forum and do a lot of reading.I ended up buying a 2016 Ram 2500 laramie crew cab 4X4 with the 6.4 hemi with 3.73 gears for about the same price of a ford f-150 super crew lariat 4X4 with the 5.0 motor.

You are gonna want more than an 18' trailer if you plan on having an implement on the back. From loader cutting edge to the cutting edge on my rear blade is 18'. Lots of implements are longer than a rear blade, like a bushhog. And leaves no room for a second implement or for load positioning.

No issues with truck. I pulled mine for years on my 20' trailer with a Chevy 1500 and 5.3l

Try to make sure your hitch AND ball are rated for 10K. For some reason a lot of hitches are sold with balls only rated for 6K.
