I would consider looking into how much more higher rated axles will add to your trailer cost. Granted a 5k trailer would work for your current tractor set up but the ability to put some more weight on the trailer may come in handy down the road.

^^^^^ This. I wish I had thought ahead. I guess my majority unloaded highway driving at 90 mph would take a hit though.

I have a 2012 3.5 Eco Boost 4x4 with 3.73 gears. It's a beast. Pulls my 10,400# boat like its nothing. Locally I get 11 mpg pulling it 50 miles to my lake at 60 mph and about 1600 RPM's On our longer trips of 800 miles or so it gets about 9 mpg going 75.

It amazes me it will go 75 mph up and down the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee and usually stay right at 2500 RPM's or so. On flat ground it will do it at 2000 RPM's or so.
