Generator Power to Hunting Cabin

I used to work as a residential electrician, and now work in industry. I would get a generator, and have an electrician go out there and set up some type of disconnect or hang a plug out of the panel that is wired the cable the goes to the generator, plus ground the trailer.

My concern came when I read your description of big black wires and a white one. Need to ground it properly and terminate the cables correctly. Rain proof.

Seen alot of hack stuff out there by handyman.

I am the kind that refuses to pay someone else to do it, but I also put alot of time in reading how to do it correctly. There are nuances to electrical, as with any trade.

You may want to just hang a plug out of the panel, or put a post in the ground with a disconnect. Myself, I am not worried about code as much as I am safety.
But most trades don't have the inherent danger of 240V.

If you can find a 1000VA computer UPS and a couple of boat trolling motor or golf cart batteries. The lighting circuits can be connected to the UPS. Saves having to run the generator every time a light switch is flicked on.
I've seen no accurate description of these "lights". If you replace them with LED's a computer UPS could probably run them all night at 10W/bulb. Or rewire for 12V and pull directly from a battery.

y.
I was just pointing out all the trades have skills, and subtle things that people don't realize are being done.

One hand I am not afraid of 240v, on the other I don't want people hearing this and being complacent.

Do people realize they need to use nolux when using aluminum? How many solid wires have been wrapped counter clockwise, because it looked easy. Probably fine. Also proper support.

Which is why I said I would get an electrician to come out set up the hook up of generator. Ideally would be a friend that was an electrician that could set you up safetly, knowing which codes are important to follow.

Alot of countries use 220/240 as basic power. Not nheard of

Not Unheard of ? Outside of Canada and the US, everything in your house is normally 240.
Instead of 120/240, 120/208, 277/480 & 347/600. Everything is nominal 220/240 single phase and three phase 220/318,240/416 .

I heard about an English guy who wired his whole house for 220 volts -every outlet!
This was a joke. I get amused when people get all excited about 220 volts like it is gonna jump out of the outlet and bite you.

At my house everything that will use 240v. is wired for 240v. The air compressor, grinders, cutoff wheels, water pumps, welder, heaters, etc. 120 v. is only useful for light bulbs.

I am jealous, I want a 240 toaster. I am tired of waiting.
