IH 2504
Hello All,

1967 IH 2504 rear lift works fine with full travel all the way up with light load (me on it ~ 200lbs) but when I try to lift my ballast box it only goes up about 4 inches. Can anybody please give me some insight here. Maybe where to look first? Poppet relief valve? I don't really know a whole lot about these rear lift mechanisms.

Thanks much.

Try an online search for a shop manual.

There are several on eBay.

Looks like it is the industrial version of a IH 504.

I'm just going to start with the obvious, is the fluid filled? When was the 3 point filters & fluid last changed?

The fluid is filled and was changed last summer along with the filter. As far as I know the main fluid reservoir is a shared tank for the tranny/gearbox, 3 point, power steering and FEL. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think there is only one main filter for the whole hydraulic system.

First of all - is this a new occurrence? Did it work before?
A hydraulic test kit is always handy.

Did anyone adjust the flow rate knob. On my mx5100 it is the knob under the seat. Had a grandson twist it closed once and I almost never figured it out!

I've tested it to see if the three point went up & down but never tried to lift anything until now. I think the FEL and the 3 point use the same pump (but I'm not 100% on this) so if the FEL works fine I would think the hydraulics to the back should work. Unless a relief valve is releasing to soon or some other issue.

Don't see any flow rate knobs. Maybe a way to adjust inside the lift unit but I don't think so.
