On-line map that shows and names rivers, creeks, tributaries?

After last weeks flash flooding, I began to try to identify some of the creeks in my vicinity. People raised in this neck of the woods refer to creeks that I don't know about. Google maps and the like may show a river/creek, but they are not good about posting the names. Even my GPS is guilty.
Does anyone know of an on-line site that would help?

Your county may have their maps available online. Usually the county, state and local use topo style maps and are digitized.
Tax maps also show creeks and streams with names.

Are the names of creeks and streams "official"? I'm aware of multiple names for some around me.

This may help on the larger ones.

ACME Mapper 2.1

Drag and zoom the map until your area is under the + and then click "Topo." It uses different scale topo maps as you zoom in, so a name may show on one zoom level and not another.

I'm looking but cannot find a place to select topological, although I already see two creeks within a couple of miles of my place that I did not know existed.

I have an app on my phone on which you can download topographic maps that include roads that will use GPS to spot your location. The nice thing is you get the topo maps are roads, place names, elevations in addition to streams and rivers. In my area of Upstate NY smaller streams (such as the two that cross my acreage) do not have names, official or otherwise.
