Was putting in 500gal propane tank. Line run is 130'. Called propane company for size of line, 1/2". I says, I am using 1.5" conduit, is that ok? Yes they say. I bury 130' of 1.5" conduit. So, I'm out doing errands and come home, there is propane dumbass shoving 3 50" sections of line into my conduit. Normally, not a problem, right? The couplers are almost 1.5". So, he is cramming the line in when I show up and says, geez, this is not going in so easy. He crams in 100' and then I have to dig up the yard at that point and expose and break conduit so he can cram line in from the other side to meet it. He says he pressure tests the line. All good Sir. Yeah. Couple months later I notice that the tank pressure is getting too low for my little use. He comes out today and says line is leaking after running pressure test. Duh. I find and expose the two buried couplings and spray with goup. No leaks. I ask for options. He says, the largest line made is 100'. I go hit google and find a 250' length within 2 minutes. Ya know, I'm just tired of dealing with stupid ******* morons that don't know anything about their jobs. I bitched at this guy about using couplings and he insisted you could not get copper runs in 150' length (or longer than 100'). Now, I am on the hook for replacing this line that the stupid ignorant idiot should have done right in the first place, after all, they are the propane company, I am not. I am convinced he kinked it while cramming it in.

I'm just tired of having to become an expert at everyones jobs before I hire them to make sure they know what they are doing. Dang.

Seems to be the way of the world these days... someone that is honest and competent is become rare.

Don't know if it is because people seldom seem to stay at one place very long or not.

I have a few propane stories after 30 years of bliss... the new company really doesn't have a clue and has screwed up several times...

The guy is probably making less than $ 15 bucks an hour. What do you think you are going to get? I do feel your pain.

the old saying: "If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself."

the new corollary: "...after becoming an expert on the subject on the internet."

Same idiot here. Line wasn't in conduit, but he kinked it right as it turned up out of the ground. I kept smelling propane faintly for a long time, and was convinced the 2nd regulator up on the wall had failed. Finally got out there and just happened to hear gas hissing down at ground level and found the leak in the bend. Lost most of a 500 gallon tank in the process. Line had been in several years, I think the leak simply got worse.

They must all go to the same comprehensive (half day) of schooling for all of North America.

A friend of mine here in Ontario Canada had similar experiences.

I refuse to pay anybody for any service any longer I have been burned too many times now. If I can't do it one way I'll find another way I can get it done.

Slightly off topic...

I posted about the water supply going dry and damaging the Dishwasher and Clothes Washer.

Service guy comes out and says the Dishwasher would be $900 to repair... forget that.

He also wrote up $600 for the Clothes Washer... but, would have to order the part.

I asked if my brother had did a search with the model number of the front loader... he said he would.

So he reads about pushing a sequence of buttons to get a diagnostic which turned out to be pump time out... then he learns another sequence can reset to factory default... he did that and washed several loads of clothes... so much for the $600 estimate... he already paid $85 for the service call...
