Unless it can out pull the 3.5 Eco Boost I can't see anyone being interested.

Chris

I'm in northern MN, and due to environmental concerns, I'm not interested in diesels whatsoever. I'll stick with my ecoboost.

Nissan is getting it right with the Cummins Titan! Chris

Ya, copy the previous model F-150 and put a 5.0L Diesel engine in it that can tow near same amount as a ecoboost F150 and get the same fuel economy. Sign me up for 10, no I'll pass. Nisan improved the very outdated Titan. Ford will probably sell more F150's in one month than Nissan will sell both gas and diesel Titans for the whole year.

The 3.2 liter inline 5 they use as a high end engine in the European Transit van, is a good match against the VM/Ram V6 ecodiesel.
It is available in the US Transit as well. Made in South Africa. Not sure how popular it is as the 3.5 Ecoboost has 400 ft lbs of torque vs 347 for the diesel, which costs $3,000 or so more. We have an Ecoboost but most Transits I see have the base gas V6.

The ecoboosts mpg takes a major drop towing, the diesel should remedy this.
This is true. I own a 2012 EB. Light loads it get 13mpg. 10,000# loads it gets 9mpg. With it being 6 grad cheaper than a comparable Ram Eco Diesel and having 30% more performance I'll stick with the Eco Booster.

Now the Titan got it right! 310 HP, would be nice if it was 350ish, 555 FT TQ, and 3.92 gears as the only option means it was built to do work, not haul kids and groceries.

Smart move. The ZF 8 speed in the RAM is pricey to service. Pan and filter are one unit that needs replacing, fluid is $43.95/quart & holds 10 quarts. Looking at $900 to service it.

I drove the new Nissan Titan XD a few months ago. Very nice rig. Except for one observation with the one truck I drove. Offline acceleration was slow until you hit around 15 MPH. Which had me stumped. Maybe because it was new and everything was new. With Dodge already having a diesel in their 1/2 ton series, I would think Ford and GM would want to make that move also. B.

My guess is they are doing the same thing GM is doing and detuning it off the line to save the drive line. It makes trannys, u joints, Ect last.

I drive alot for work and pleasure, so I am curious. People talk about how diesel engines last forever, but the problem is the rest of the vehicle still has lots of miles. Though if you got 2 vehicles and take it in when you notice problems it is not as bad.

I wonder how many vehicles are junked with a bad motor, or the owner just got sick of fixing things. I suspect it is the later.

The price of diesel trucks turns me off. But if you could closer to 1/2 ton prices, I might be interested. My gas truck pulls my tractor, but I wish it had more power. I would the think the RV crowd would like it too.
