What do you pay for Gravel??

Seems just about everyone I know with a nice pension at least considers cashing out and pulling up stakes... so many of my Public Safety friends with good pensions sell the house and cut ties with California... even if it is only a move to Nevada with no State Income Tax.

What I like the most about areas outside the Bay Area is people seem to be more trusting... like the gravel guy in Olympia... it really is business done on a handshake and very reasonable.

If you tried to pay someone here with anything larger than a $20 you would be suspect... and forget about checks...

We had several nearby quarries that have all shut down do to environmental concerns...

Big difference between gravel and lime stone too. So for comparing, be sure to specify. Alot of people call limestone "gravel" as well.

I have 20+ ton loads of "crusher run" or 3/4" minus, or road base, etc hauled for $16/ton and thats limestone. With a contractor discount at the pit, its about $11/ton to buy. So about $5/ton delivery, and its about 35 miles one way. So he is making ~$100+/- per load, and about 1.5 hrs of time involved. Honestly dont know how he is making money, unless he is getting an even bigger discount due to volume at the pit.

The "gravel" pit is only 10 miles away. Still charges about $5/ton over what I can get it for for delivery. And that stuff is $6-$7/ton.

Good point.
What I am using is also Limestone, I get it from Central Limestone in Morris IL. $6.50 a ton for CA6 road mix, 3/4" with fines at the pit. Valcun 1 mile down the road wants $9.00 a ton. The brown gravel here is called river run.

Delivered and spread for $25 a ton (1" to 2" limestone). That is a 10 ton load. The drivers are good spreaders and will deliver within 30 min of when you schedule it.

Yes for some reason the bigger the stone size the more it cost and the less they have to grind it to make??? What is with that??? 3/4" with fines is less than 3"????

All of the gravel I have gotten in Ohio is primarily limestone.
Glacial deposits will have granite but are still mostly limestone.
Are you trying to distinguishing between crushed and natural deposits.

The gravel I refer to has no limestone. Limestone is worth more $$$.

Here is what "gravel" looks like. (I am no rock expert, but granite and sandstone would be what I call it. Would be awesome without the soft sandstone)

The gravel I use is white/Grey specks. That's river rock.
