To (hopefully) eliminate the interference issue with the cylinders, I gave the towers/masts a haircut:

This is what I removed (two sets total):

Got four (of six total) pins drilled and polished up a little more. They were all pins for the hydraulic cylinders. Still have to do the two pins for the jaw.

The spot on the jaw arm marked in yellow is where I ground off some material as it was contacting the cylinders when the jaw was fully open.

This is the last thing I did tonight before I called it a day.

Tacked in the pieces with the red X's on them, and the corresponding pieces that go behind them. Basically, it's a brush guard, to hopefully keep those stray logs from visiting the radiator. There will be two more below these, to handle the lower opening.

What does it take to lift the bucket?
That's a good question ... :D

I haven't really paid close attention but I'm gonna say it's in the neighborhood of 200 to 400 psi. Will have to check next time I have it on.

Can't tell from the photo, but will the upper jaw pass through the lower one so that the grapple can clamp down on smaller diameter items like saplings?
The teeth on the upper and lower jaws will bypass each other ... but they do not touch (alternating pattern, with 5 teeth on the upper jaw and 7 teeth on the lower)

I can control how far they bypass by welding in material between the base of the hydraulic cylinder and the bushing that was originally welded to the base of the cylinder.

This will come at some loss of the maximum distance that they jaws can open to (cylinders will only compress so far) ... but with a current maximum opening somewhere in the neighborhood of 65" it's probably not something I need to be overly concerned about ... :D

If you look at the images in posts 77, 78, and 80, that is the extent to which they currently close, without further modifying the cylinders.

Informal poll:

Should I modify the cylinders so that the jaws close further ?

Next question:

I used this "cut-out" plate from Titan for the QA plate:

5/16" Attachment Cut Out Mount Plate

It comes with a 3/8" bar that runs across the top that ties the two halves together.

The SSQA I built only engages that bar on either side for about 9 1/2".

Any reason I can't cut that part (24") in the middle out, as long as I leave around 10" or so on either side ?

I'd like to remove it for weight-saving reasons, and repurpose it for the uprights for the brush guard on the lower jaw.

If it's going to be on there it might as well be doing something useful.
