Instead of a sproingy type spring I got one of these for the grapple I am building - constant force spring like what is in commercial hose reels. I think it might be tidier.
Be interested to see how you attach it.

Got the expanded metal backstop cut, fitted, and welded on:

Also think I may have fixed the leak on the hose from the front outlets @ the FPT ---> FJIC adapter where it attaches to the grapple. Used some No. 1 Permatex of the hardening type. Also installed nylon sleeving over the hoses and switched the hoses around: pull back on joystick with button for diverter pressed and it opens, push forward and it closes:

While doing that I managed to pooch the teflon ring that the o-ring sits in on one of the male flush face couplers ... swapped it out for another male coupler and that one had a similar problem. Ran down to the hardware just before they closed and picked up several o-ring to attempt a fix ... used two o-rings instead of one o-ring and teflon ring and it worked !

Also trimmed the bracket on the loader crosstube, so it wasn't rubbing on the outer jacket of the hose ... even managed not to cut the (new) hose ...

Was pretty late by then ... but I still managed to clear 75' to 100' of fence line before it got too dark to work ...

Might get around to installing the Weather Pack connector today.

Leak was not fixed. After futzing around with it several times I came to the conclusion that it wasn't the threads on the fitting on the hose end but actually the crimp ... so had The Woman pick up a hose at TSC the other day while she was out. Replaced that and it appears we now have no leaks.

Managed to finally get the Weather Pack connector installed on the wiring harness for the diverter yesterday ... then promptly went out and got the tractor stuck in the mud.

Not only that, while I was trying to unstick it by using sticking the lower rake teeth in the ground and curling back, I managed to unhook one side of the grapple and tweak the SSQA a little.

Fortunately I was able to chain it up and my neighbor was out on his JD getting some topsoil for his wife and he came down and gave me that little extra pull that I needed to get unstuck.

Turned out that the SSQA wasn't so badly tweaked that I couldn't remount the grapple and use it (away from the mud ...) ... but it's going to need some work to get it back to where it fits really securely. Best news out of that whole deal: no welds broke ... :D

Took down two more trees (one ash, one poplar) in the area I'm clearing, piled up a bunch of logs from what's been cut onto the wood pile for later bucking.

I've noticed that if the jaw is open all the way and I have the grapple curled all the way back, the sleeving that is on the grapple cylinder hoses is contacting the rod end fittings on the bucket cylinders and is starting to look a little ragged. Will probably get some of that plastic spiral wrap to protect them a little better.
