Coobie - Have you logged enough miles yet to offer up any mpg results yet? (I know its a 3/4 ton and not really why a 3/4 ton is usually purchased. That said, I have been contemplating an uprade to either a Ram 2500 or Silverado 2500 gasser for my next truck....when I can get over the sticker shock of looking anyway. Cost to operate it is one of the factors for me so always interested in feedback).

Also, How is the ride. My wife has lots of health problems so a punishing ride is out for me hence the reason I have only been loosely looking and mostly considering only the Ram 2500 or the Silverado 2500 as most claim they have the best ride of the 2500's. Her health problems may force me to remain with 1/2 ton with a heavy payload package or similar.

I have only 900 miles on the dodge at this time.I have averaged about 14.2 mpg,s city/mostly highway driving.I am sure that will improve a little when the engine gets broke in more. The wife and I love the ride,IMHO the rear coil springs make a big difference in the ride verses springs. The only complaint we have the truck sets up pretty high so quite a hike to get inside.I would suggest to take a few different trucks for a test drive. We test drove 2016,s(super crew cabs) ford f-150,Ford f250,and chevy 2500.First place was the dodge,2nd ford f-150,3rd chevy 2500,4th f-250.Hope this helps.

Yes definitely a help. Is the 14.2 dash display or hand calculated? Sadly most of the Ram 2500 dash calculators are off by 2 to 2.5 mpg on the optimistic side according to many.

Actually, Drove a Ford F150 a couple weeks ago with the 5.0 V8. The Wife and I both liked it but was not overwhelmed with it in any way. Made $50 in the deal though as local dealer was running a March Madness promotion where you test drive a new vehicle then take a foul shot if you make it they hand you $50 cash. The foulshot was closer to a 17 footer instead of 15, but I sunk it anyway. Not bad for an old man pushing 50 with zero warmups, shooting outside in the wind, and had not even touched a basketball in 2 years. I already know the current F-250 is out as we test drove those a couple years ago and ride was too rough for wife.

Have sat in the new Silverado's but not driven one yet. I do not really like the feel behind the wheel, nor the lower windshield roofline, but I do love all the the GM V8's....

Just returned from driving a Ram 2500 4x4 trademan with 6.4. It did not have running boards on it. It was comical watching my wife get in it. I got my laugh for the day as it is a challenge for an older short person like her to get in it for sure. Heck I am nearly 6'5" and struggled to clime in it. Ride was passable for her but not overwhelming. Wished they would have had a higher trim line in configuration I looking at but they did not. It had a 3.73 rearend

We also drove a Ram 1500 SLT with 5.7 liter Hemi and crew cab 4x4 and 6' 3" or whatever bed and 3.92 rear end with 8 speed tranny. The Wife loved it and so did I. We told the dealer we will take it if they honor the internet price they had it advertised for which is the sole reason we went there in the first place. However, they are claiming that price was not correct and balking....higher mangers and owner were not there today...will know more tomorrow...should be interesting...

I would almost prefer a truck that comes from the factory without running boards. That way I could get Amp Research power steps. I know a few people with them and they are great. You get a bi wide step that auto deploys when the door is opened.

My gas mileage was hand calculated. The wife and I can relate to no running boards our test drive truck did not have any running boards it was kind of funny trying to get inside the truck but by god we made it.Good luck on your choice.

As a comparison, my 2015 2500HD Z71 with 6.0L gasser, 6 speed 6L90 trans, and 4.10 diffs, the average mpg for summer has been 14-15 mpg and winter 13-14 mpg. Those are averages for all miles.... highway, gravel roads, in town, off road, hauling, cumulatively. On road trips, typically 17-18 mpg. A little over 21K miles on it now. The local running has been generally on E15 regular fuel. Yes, E15 not E85. On road trips, usually E10. So the differences between brands of pickups is not really much. I got it primarily for payload capacity, not towing, and I got a little over $9000 off the sticker with a free Line-X bedliner job. Get what works best for what you need at the best value you can get it at.

I laugh every time I see the term "hemi head" engine. Don't know how Dodge got a patent on it because Alfa Romeo and Toyota had "hemi head" (without that name) engines with spark plugs at top and valves to each side WAY before Dodge coined this term. Almost all Corolla and Tacoma 4 cylinder engines are "hemi head" type. Alfas way back to the 50s are "hemi head". All give good fuel mileage, mainly depends on the fuel delivery type and whether turbo or not as to how efficient they are.

I believe Ford had the first mass produced Hemi. Heck, my Civic and Kawasaki lawnmower engine also have Hemi heads.
